This is a hidden gem of a beach!! It is located along Collins Ave in North Miami! The water is crystal clear, the sand is white, soft and thick!! There is a great bike, walk and run trail along the beach also! This town is truly a beach town!! People walk around in swim wear, kids skateboard everywhere, there is a Publix grocery store and a CVS, along with great restaurants and shopping!! The restaurants and shopping (Including the Bal Harbour shops) are all located on Harding Ave which is 1 block behind Collins Ave!! It runs approximately 8 blocks long. Everything is walking distance!! This is the perfect spot for a perfect beach holiday!! You can easily take public transit or an Uber and get to the heart of South Beach in about 30 minutes!! I prefer this area because it feels very safe, it is a small community and the beach has space!! I cannot wait to come back to Surfside.... the Uptown Beachtown!!

This was just perfect for us. The restaurants were great, the beach was beautiful and we loved the walking trail. I would highly recommend. Easy walk to "downtown". Easy bus access to Miami Beach and probably more, we stayed close and were happy to do so.

This is a great place to stay and close to the beach!! The rooms are clean and very comfortable, the breakfast was good and the best of all the people from housekeeping to the manager were all very kind and helpful. This is the place to stay when in Surfside. 5 Stars!!

We just arrived in sunny Florida for some much needed R&R. We got to the beach around noon and found it clogged with seaweed which made it difficult to walk the shoreline in places.
I've been here before and know how great it can be. It missed the mark today.

The Surfside beach shore has dissapeared. The little stripof sand left is covered with decaying algae full of flies. The city refuses to acknowledge residents and visitors complaints to fix the problem. The decayin brown algae mountain keeps growing by theday and nobody seems to be interested inpicking it up to clean the beach. It is horrible. Unless you want to bathe in a decaying brown algae pool, go somewhere else.

We were very disappointed to receive a $158 Surfside traffic ticket after returning home from a trip to the greater Miami area. They'd used a camera to record our driving through an "intersection," a place marked only by traffic lights that are well past the place they expect you to stop -- completely past a crosswalk and a little side street that only intersects from one direction. (We have checked this on Google Maps and it's really clear.) Compounding the problem, we'd just responded to a sign instructing us to change lanes, really just a distraction to set us up to miss the pseudo-intersection. Be very cautious in Surfside, but particularly on Collins at 93rd Street. There's robbery going on in broad daylight right there!

I am so happy to be able to enjoy this beautiful sunny beach in Miami! It has a very clean boardwalk where we can walk and the white sand is clean and the sea is marvelous!

The beach was great. Very clean with good white sand. However there's a major beach building project ongoing at the moment. All day long from 8am trucks are ferrying and dumping sand on the beach. It's very noisy and I found crossing the marks in the sand left by the trucks difficult as I'm recovering from a fracture of a metatarsal bone in my foot. I wasn't expecting to have to cope with this.
Also the beachguards were flying red and blue flags most days due to very rough seas and a jellyfish infestation.I did have some very nice swims in the ocean when the jellyfish were gone. My husband was stung. Not a nice experience.

Is there anywhere for the public to rent chairs and/or beach umbrellas?
Written February 23, 2016
I don't believe so. However, the park that makes up the south end of the beach at Surfside (the North Shore Open Space Park) runs 10 blocks long between 79th and 88th Streets and has plenty of trees. You can find many shady spots right on the beach, maybe even a picnic table. Take a look at my review of Surfside Beach by clicking my icon on the left and then clicking Contributions. If you like it, I always appreciate a Helpful vote. I have other recommendations around Surfside, too.
Good luck in Surfside. The beach and the town are very quiet and comfortable.
