A great place to trace major periods of Florida history from the native Indians to todays present period. Along the way archeological discoveries are presented in a context of continuing history.

Highly recommend a tour of this expansive museum when in town. You'll learn things you never realized about the history of the state of Florida.

Recently remodeled, reopened, and expanded exhibits, particularly in the prehistory and early history areas, are fascinating. The mastadon, dugout canoes, very old carvings, spear points, pottery....with clear, well-written displays. The civil war area is interesting as well. The museum has wonderful special exhibits and events....More

This free of charge museum tells the Florida story in every detail from 12,000 years ago to the presence. We spent about two hours but had to skip most of the details. To get the complete picture you probably need to spend a full day....More

Many of us live here in Tallahassee and have probably not been to this museum. You simply MUST go. There is no charge, and you will NOT be disappointed. What a wonderful introduction to our great state's history, with wonderfully helpful and friendly staff.

Learn Florida's history - from prehistoric times. Remarkable displays. Abundant written descriptions. Minimum of two hours. Could easily spend four hours. Appropriate for most children age of ten years upward. Excellent introductory film.

it all depends on your level of interest in the various exhibits, as others have aptly described. 3-4 hours would be completely adequate, I'd think. that would include time-outs for a snack and some sit down time to relax... More
