'A Welsh garden with a Dutch history', Cae Hir is the extraordinary creation of Dutchman Wil Akkermans, whose family history in Dutch horticulture stretches back over 200 years. Covering 6 acres of Welsh hillside, this RHS Partner Garden unites a meandering stream and water garden, species rose garden, bonsai collection, local slate stonework and innovative formal features into one informal and unpredictable whole.

I visited these gardens to see a quilt display. The design is outstanding as is the planting. The terrain is steep in places. The gardens are very well looked after. The food in the tea room is excellent and the staff helpful.

This is a sloped garden that would have been the back yard of a private home. That doesn't sound very exciting but someone has worked their magic on this space and it winds up and down the hill it sits on with graceful curves and...More

These are very nice gardens but are built on a slope which makes it very difficult for disability challenged persons. There is no real wheel chair facilities and if you have walking problems the fact that they are on a slope will make it difficult...More

Thank you for your review. You are right - the gardens, a good part of which are on a fairly steep slope, are not very wheelchair friendly. We have had wheelchairs make it to the very top, but more often than not they stay in...More
