Very well kept house of one of the Carnegie children. The park service maintains it. Very good tour to explore the house.

Defintely not worth the tortuous van ride, but perhaps worth a bike or boat ride. Don't bring elderly or health impaired people on the van ride.

Remarkably preserved and well furnished, grandeur on a grand scale. 400 people were once employed merely to entertain the folks who lived and visited here. A good look at how the elite pre-tax 1%ers once spent their time and money.

A palatial home (not as ornate as the mansions of Newport, RI), Plum Orchard was built as a winter getaway for the children of Thomas Carnegie, brother of Andrew Carnegie. It is well worth a visit if one is on Cumberland Island, GA.
