Here at Crisson Gold Mine you can Pan for Real Dahlonega Gold, and look for Gemstones. We have instructors that are willing to help you and your family have a fun adventure. We also offer the use of Trommels, Highbankers, Gold cubes to the person that wants to do more than just pan. Please call us to find out more information. The Crisson Gold Mine has a lot of history. It is an actual open pit gold mine that was established in 1847 and was worked commercially until the early 1980s. We've been open to the public since 1969 and we are the oldest gold mining establishment in North Georgia. At Crisson Gold Mine, there is a 130-year-old stamp mill that is still used to crush quartz rock which contains gold. This crushed rock is called ore. In addition to the stamp mill, we have rod mills and jaw crushers that we occasionally use. All of these antique gold mining machines along with our open pit mine can be seen when you visit our gold mine. We sell our ore by the 5-gallon bucket. You can pan for the gold at our gold mine, or you can take the ore home with you. For our more serious gold miners, we have trommels for your use during your visit to Crisson Gold Mine. These machines are used to separate the gold from the sand at a much more efficient pace. Several buckets of ore can be finished in less than half the time it takes to pan them out. New for 2014 you can now purchase a pan of quartz rock and use our crusher to crush them, then pan out the gold. This has been a big hit. Especially for the more serious miners.

Fun but open air

Fun but open air, so if it's rainy or too hot, you will not enjoy it. It rained and we could not do the wagon ride, kids were disappointed.

Thank you very much for your great Rating! I hope you all had a good time here at the Mine. I am sorry that the weather didn't allow you to do the wagon ride. The activity of Gold and Gem Panning is usually done outside. So to make this activity more enjoyable because we are open 7 days a week... More

Crisson Gold Mine is a wonderful place. The owners are kind and friendly and helpful. The prices are very fair. We had such a great time there we returned for a second day. We found gold and the gold fever. We enjoyed every moment of our visits.

We decided to go up to the mountains spontaneously and since we've never been panning for gold we decided to stop somewhere with the kids for fun. We all had a great time! Panning for gold was not as entertaining (we weren't there for any serious gold) but panning for gems was a lot of fun, especially for the kids.... More

This was a wonderful time for me and my family. We planned to stop here on out way to our final stop. So glad we did the price is great and the service was excellent. We panned for gold, boxed for mineral rocks as well as took the wag9n ride around the mine. Our 3 year old had a ball... More

For the 9.95 entrance fee you get a same bucket of "gold ore" and a small bucket of "mineral ore". They are very friendly and willing to show you how to pan. You are standing under a covered area so while outside not too warm (for someone from Florida)

This was a great afternoon activity for me and my 7 year old granddaughter. The staff was helpful in instructing us as to technique and what to look for in the gold pan. The wagon ride was good for the 7 year old, but don't think it would appeal to kids older than that. The gift shop was well stocked... More

If you mention that you saw their ad at the visitors center in Dahlonega, kids 12 and under get 1/2 off the usual $10 admission fee during the month of July. This fee includes a 1 gold panning pan, a bucket of gem stoning sand, and a self guided tour of the grounds. The gold panning was too difficult for... More

I took my family to Dahlonega to enjoy the mountains. Summer time is beautiful in the mountains. I am so glad I went to the welcome center first to find out what there is to do. Gold panning was one of the many activities there is to do in Dahlonega. I wanted the real deal. They said Crisson is where... More

Not the easiest way to make a buck to be sure. Bending for a few hours and shaking a gold pan isn't the most exciting activity either... until those little flakes start appearing. Definitely worth the trip.
