The Jail is a Must-See!

It was really cool to see the old jail cells, the relevant artifacts and try to imagine what is was like to be a "guest!"

Plenty of local art to peruse and purchase, and a roomful of art by kids was a special treat. Some cute handcrafts also. Interesting display of artifacts from the building's time as a jail. A fairly quick stop but, quite enjoyable. Must be able to climb/descend stairs so this museum is not a good option for handicapped persons.

Times change. And so has this Jail. Instead of housing inmates, it houses art displays, and information for visitors. The Old Darien Jail is kept as a museum too. Who would have thought that after serving the community for over 100 years, it would then continue serving, but not as a Jail. As one of various jobs after 23 years... More

We went to Darien on our anniversary to explore this small fishing town, and saw this museum with its art gallery. We loved exploring it, and although it is small, it fits well into the ambience of this town. We bought one of the paintings from the local artist there and it hangs proudly in our home. I have many... More

My husband and I recently visited The Old Jail Art Center and Museum. The museum had some very interesting local art on the first floor which we enjoyed viewing and we were able to self tour the jail cells on the second floor which was the museum. It is definitely worth a visit

We stopped here as we entered Darien and were enthralled by the mixture of old and new The local artists are talented and have great wares to show. The use of the space in the old jail is so unique and interesting. Great insight into the history of the area! The volunteer staff is gracious and helpful.

Great for teenagers. They enjoy the art and the jail. Makes a good photo op also. The women that work there are very friendly, it makes you want to return.

Neat little museum and art gallery. The museum focused on local history and the gallery showcases a new local artist each month.
