Good historic presentation on the island's culture and heritage, but really only worth visiting as a prelude to taking the ferry out to the island. Nice nature trail, partly blocked by downed trees.

The Visitors Center is a good place to start. Lots of history there. The real way to finish the trip is to go by ferry, from the visitors center , to Sapelo Island. Read about the history of the island and the people who settled there. The R.J. Reynolds mansion is there too and it is beautiful. Great way to... More

We booked this trip for the last Tuesday of the month. Usually when you tour Sapelo you can either do an Island tour and lighthouse or Island tour and mansion. On the last Tuesday of the month, of certain months, you can tour all three. It was only $15 per person for a public tour, meaning others come with you.... More

An educational and fun trip all in one. Take the ferry over to Sapelo...have a reservation. Our guide was Yvonne, She is a treasure. Yvonne is a native of Sapelo (a Geechee, read history). She is also a weaver of sweetgrass baskets. Her tour was fascinating.

Very educational and nice to read about the history behind the island. I loved overlooking the marshland which was just a breathtaking sight. The ranger there was friendly and very knowledgeable.

You can buy a ticket at the visitor center for the ferry that takes you to Sapelo Island. We enjoyed a nice 2.5 hour bus tour with a very knowledgeable local guide.

Center is where you get your tickets to go over to Sapelo itself. While in the center you have access to a lot of history before you ever get over to the island. It is very cool inside with restrooms , water, information and souvenirs to purchase . You board a ferry over to the island to take the tour... More

Tucked away at the end of a road, this visitor's center is one of the best around. It has ample parking , shade trees, picnic area, nice view of the marsh & ocean, long handicap ramp, restrooms, water fountain, a wealth of information about Sapelo Island and the people who called her home. The staff is very knowledgeable & friendly.... More
