We were staying a fair distance away from here but we decided on our last day to visit. We were so glad that we had, the drive there was impressive but the view when we arrived stunned us. Don't miss it if you are in the area.

...... well that is the auberge at the viewing point at La Baume Auriol, no one tells you that the information centre, cafe etc is closed over winter. That said, this is a very impressive geographical feature. Huge gorge with a fast flowing river, and what comes across as two small worn villages at the bottom that make up Navacelles.... More

This wonderful place is well worth seeing even if you have to drive out of you way to do it. We stayed at a B&B L'Ammonite, Chambres & Table d'Hôtes for a few days and loved every minute of the experience. Great people in the city, population of 14, yes only 14 people and gawked at the views. And coming... More

We didn't do much walking but even so we could see how stunning this place is. Mind you, it was exciting enough venturing down the narrow road which only had a couple of passing places.Navacelles itself is a beautiful village as well albeit that it can get full of cars in the season.

This is a site seeing must if you are in the area. We drove to the Baume Auriol where there is an Information Centre and the best viewing point to look down on to the Cirque de Navacelles. We then booked a seat at the restaurant which overlooked the landscape, an excellent vantage point. The view is what could be... More

A wonderful natural geographic formation, caused by the Vis River which still flows through the gorge. The view from the top where there is a visitor centre and exhibition which describes the ox bow formation is interesting though only in French. There is a brief film also and a decent restaurant and craft shop. The road down to Navacelles a... More

The cirque is located in the middle of what appears to be an old volcano. Descending to the village by car is already a great experience, but as soon as you exit your vehicle down below and go into the small pool there will be a much greater experience in the form of a series of waterfalls and pools which... As a former resident of the southwest US, this is not something I expected to see in the south of France. My friend took me there to see if it reminded me of the Grand Canyon. Not at all, actually. Beautiful in other ways. Highly recommended.

This place is worth a visit, the road down to the village is steep so hold your nerve you will be rewarded with a wonderful bit of history. we found it spectacular and beautiful and spent a few hours exploring. this review does not do it justice you have to see it for yourselves.

Upon reading many of the reviews on here we were understandably nervous about the driving down in to the gorge, however if you are a competent driver it is not a difficult drive as long as you do not have a fear of heights. The view points on either side of the gorge are nice and give a good view,... More
