The homes were beautiful and well kept. The shops had very friendly shop keepers. We stopped at the newly open Jekyll Island club bike shop and they were very helpful and priced well for a new tire.

The historic district is fascinating. You can walk or bike through it, or get a guided team tour, which starts at the museum. Well worth it!

So much history. Our tour was fantastic and filled with detailed facts. We gained a little insight into the daily lives of those who used to vacation on Jekyll so long ago. Tour guide made excursion a lot of fun for our kids also.

This is an interesting place to walk around and visit the shops and see the "cottages" where millionaires had their winter homes back in the late 1800's. There's a museum with a short film that tells the history of the area. The center of the...More

This section of the island is heavily promoted in all the guides. So we dedicated a couple of hours to visit this historic community. Although open to the public and every building being labeled on maps and pedestrian signs -- I never felt welcome. It...More

When visiting Jekyll Island we found it quite unattractive, a manicured place without charm. The part that is called historic is really tiny and the rest of the island looks like the suburbs in the Steford Wives movie, clean and polished but without a soul...More

We love the historical part of Jekyll island because it gives you a glimpse into the past and how the rich lived. beautiful manicured gardens, impressive trees covered in spanish moss and waiting to be climbed. Great pathways and shops.

The airport choices are JAX or Savannah. They are nearly equidistant from Jekyll. There is a tiny airport in Brunswick, but it requires an expensive plane change. Charleston airport is a little less than 3.5hrs away... More

Walking around and seeing sights, absolutely! They do have some shops, but I'm not sure about lunch. They have some snack shops, but no actual restaurant.
