We always go camping for Christmas holidays. This was our first - but not last - visit here & we loved it! Campsites are wonderful - gravel, level, large, good privacy. 18 sites are full hookup. No wifi but we didn't care or need. Fort itself was fascinating & work the visit. Staff were super friendly!

This was our 1st time camping here and we loved the place! We will definitely be returning! Great place to camp with kids and very dog friendly. They let you bring your dog everywhere! Even the fort and visitor center is dog friendly. The staff and camp hosts were always friendly and waving. The camp store beats the near by firewood prices so just buy your firewood there! They sell ice by the bags if you need ice for your cooler. The setting was beautiful and well taken care of. Everyday there were deer in the campground that gave it an extra magical touch! We can't wait to go back!!

Campground host were excellent and friendly and helpful. Our site was large and clean. Only issue was fire pit was way to close to rv so we used our portable pit. Park office staff were ok, one lady’s as extremely friendly and helpful, all others seemed to be you were bothering or interrupting them. The gate attendant was a joke, i think we woke him one time and he just snarled at us.

The fort itself was awesome, we did two days to see it all.

Stayed here two nights in cottages 4 & 5 with our sons and their families. Beautiful cottages on stilts (lots of climbing stairs when going between cabins). Each cottage is two bedrooms (2 queen beds in each bedroom) and two baths. Each has a nice, fully furnished kitchen with pots, pans, utensils, silverware, cups, plates, etc. They provide garbage bags, dish detergent, roll of paper towels, dish cloths and hot pads. We brought paper goods so we didn't use their dishes but nice to know they are there if needed. Even had a can opener, which is great because I forgot mine. Each family brought food for a meal and we used many of the things in the kitchen. They also have a dishwasher with detergent provided. Bed linens and bath towels are provided, along with soap, shampoo and lotion, just like in a hotel. Each cabin had three TV's, one in living room and one in each bedroom. My only complaint would be the shower head. It is very high. I couldn't reach it to adjust and I'm 5'6".

The park rangers are very friendly and helpful. They drive through the cottage area often to make sure everything is okay.

The weather was beautiful. The family brought their bikes and rented two. I think you can also rent kayaks. They rode on the trails and got a little muddy. Some went to the Fort. A playground was right across from our cottages for our little grandson. Would definitely recommend.

Never stayed in this area and seeing all the salt marshes was very interesting. Getting to the park no problem. Once you get to the camping area a bit curvy. I only recall pull thru sites so good for our longer rig. We did walk around which glad we did as we did the bigger loop when exiting as the smaller would have been more challenging.

Our site looked toward the marshes and was very large. Really liked it. They do have the no seeum nats so having a fire going is good to get the smoke to run them off. Bug spray a must. Also was told even if nice outside close up windows as they can get thru the screens. Make sure you visit the Fort and museum, very fascinating. Lots of great restaurants in area and a brewery. We camped at Fort McAllister State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We decided to try the Redbird Creek Trail today expecting to hike new trail created after Mathew destroyed the original one. We were shocked to discover that this temporary trail was closed and original trail reopened. New bridge across the swamp, 3.1 miles round trip (from parking lot) including 0.5 mile rt spur to the observation deck. It took five years, but finally we have our favorite trail back.

This was a neat site. Plenty of parking as the historical part is part of a larger park with RVs, camping, etc. Minimal fee for admission and that includes a short film, museum, and access to the fort itself. There was a period actor who went over how Soldiers of the era fired their weapons. It was a fun outting!

This fort is so unique. It has a central area surrounded by earthen bunkers that look like small indian burial mounds. You can go inside the mounds which are dimly lit with old fashioned grill covered light bulbs to see where soldiers slept in bunks and ammunition and other things were stored. There is even a fireplace in one of them. When you check in, you are given a map for a self tour that takes you to numbered points of interest. There are cannons and a lookout platform you can climb. We also went on the magnolia trail which was beautiful and relaxing. There is a fishing pier and wooden double swings all along the river where we sat and let the world go by. The place is clean and there is plenty of free parking.
