We just returned from our class trip (4th graders) to Stone Mountain and we can certainly cross it off the bucket list!! The hike was indeed challenging....I wasn't prepared for such a rocky terrain, it was our first time and I was under the impression of a simple path -- NOT! We saw a variety of hikers in all age... Be sure to see Stone Mountain. It is a beautiful setting and the mountain carving is a must see. The lazer light show is really nice. We opted for the reserved seating with the buffet dinner. This option was totally worth it. The dinner was really good and you got reserved seating for the show. The park has a nice... More

I haven't been to Stone Mountain park since the 1990s and it hasn't changed much. You can still take the 1 mile hike up the mountain (do this). But now you can buy soft serve ice cream and pretzels to reward yourself when you make it to the top. There is still a train that goes around the mountain. And... More

Stone Mountain is a Georgia State Park worth a visit. It's 30 miles east of Atlanta (really just 10 miles outside I-285). Access is via two gated entrances where they charge $15 per vehicle. Once inside the park, almost everything is free (except the upcharge attractions which we didn't sample). If you visit, here are a few suggestions: - The... More

Our family really liked the laser show. It was funny, fun, sad, heartwarming, patriotic. Good music to accompany it. We didn't have time for the rest of the par, unfortunately.

We moved from Atlanta in 1987 and my family hadn't been back since. On this trip my 77 year old father, 72 year old mom and 12 and 14 year old kids all made the climb. It is long and steep. If not in great shape plan on walking slowly, taking lots of breaks and drinking water. We were there... More

Stone Mountain is a great place to spend the day - whether you're with family, friends, or solo. Hike to the top, which isn't that difficult except for the last couple hundred feet, (or take the gondola) for amazing views of Atlanta and beyond (beware of smoggy days). On a clear day you can see far into the N. Georgia... More

Visited Stone Mountain and enjoyed the Dinosaur exhibit and Sky Hike. Historic buildings are a wonderful example of homes from the 1700's through present. Only complaint is the food service was very understaffed and unprepared for the numbers of people there. Long lines and food was cold. Food was ok quality but not worth the cost. Only one cashier present... More
