Description:

Located in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, the Okefenokee Swamp...

Located in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, the Okefenokee Swamp Park is a convenient point of entry and a magnificent show-window for the "Land of the Trembling Earth." The park's lily-decked water trails, with their miraculously reflective waters mirroring the overhanging beauty, lead to all points in this vast wilderness of islands, lakes, jungles, forest and prairies. Boat tours on original Indian waterways, wilderness walkways, Pioneer Island and native animals in their own habitat, all combine to weave a spell of pioneer American life. Headwaters of the Suwannee and St. Mary's Rivers, Okefenokee is a National Wildlife Refuge which covers nearly a half million acres.

We visited on a Wednesday in mid-March. There were very few other guests so we were able to maximize our photo ops. We bought the full ticket and enjoyed all our journeys. At this time of the year there are 3 'events'. The train ride, the boat ride, and the nature talk. Each starts at the top of the hour... More

Had a great time here with the family. All aspects of swamp were enjoyable. Call and make sure the boats are running because that was the best part of the day. Also, sign the waiver in the office and walk the boardwalk through the swamp. It is on water level and will put hair on the chest of a young... More

We thought the $17/adult entrance fee was steep, until we came to understand that it included a 1.5 mile tour pulled by their beautiful 36-gauge replica steam engine. The beautiful train engineer was also our tour guide pointing out the interesting things and animals along the tracks. She ensured everybody aboard had an opportunity to see the things she was... Four juniors from Wooster College in Ohio visited the North Beach of Florida in mid-March. The weather was too cold and rainy; so sunbathing on the beach wasn't an option. Why not Okefenokee? Five of us took the train loop ... and then the boat loop. Melvin, the boatman, was a treat. Mid-March has the advantage of avoiding "yellow flies"... More

The park has many varied programs, train rides and boat tours. The admission price includes an informative train ride with a stop to see a vintage village and equipment. There were many chances to see the large and small alligators, snakes and turtles there. This is definitely worthwhile to do at least once to support the nonprofit business.

The wife and I visited this 402,000 acre refuge today. It was nothing short of fantastic. There is so much to see and so little time. We took the 7 mile bike ride from the visitor center and also did the mile and a half walk on the boardwalk. We saw all types of wildlife and also got to see... More

While staying in Lake Park, we decided to drive approximately 80 miles to the Okefenokee Swamp Park. We arrived shortly after lunch and were excited to see gators immediately after getting out of the truck. We then paid $27 a piece to enter the park which included a boat ride, train ride and animal exhibit. After completing the two rides... More

Visited this park 30 years ago, but today it seems very run down, Very little information given -you have to ask. For example we wanted to visit the tower, but having walked the boardwalk to the gate for the tower, we then found that we had to sign a disclaimer before embarking on the walk, also it closes at 4:30,... Went to park as a weekend getaway with my wife. The weather was beautiful. I would recommend purchasing the pass that in lures the boat and train rides with the nature show. I would also recommend getting to the park early and staying late. The alligators and turtles do not like cool weather so some do not come out till... More
