During a family stay, I visited the penitentiary with my son in law and two grandchildren, 11 and 6. All of us were totally engaged during our two hour visit. I definitely suggest the tour! One learns so much about history, conditions and other trivia....More

This is a very interesting visit. We did the self guided tour but they have lots of information printed around the facility to keep us informed. Interesting for all ages and even if you can't climb stairs you can see most of the buildings. Interesting...More

The Idaho Penitentiary is like walking back in time to the old west and early 20th century. The tour guides are very well versed in the sites history plus you get the added twist of "Ghost Stories and Haunted Tales" to spice up the excursion...More

A lot of interesting history here -- some very young inmates housed here (one 9-year old) with intriguing stories. Supposedly haunted, but didn't see any ghosts (thank goodness!).

Best done with a guided tour to find out more of the history such as the fire that killed several. Love visiting, but wish had a little more information posted at some of the buildings. The history is great

This was a cool tour. Plenty of stories were told and the place was a bit scary, but with a lot of people there it was a bit less.

My kids loved freely walking around the grounds! Great history and learning to gain for all ages! Staff was kind and helpful! Recommend sending a couple hours and bringing water as it does get hot!

It is self guided so you can really stop when you like. To walk and enjoy all the areas figure 2 -3 hours.
