About two hours or less from Boise, Idaho is Bruneau Canyon Overlook. A deep canyon with the Bruneau river way below and a powerful scenic overlook. Modernized somewhat now with guard railings, places to sit and observe as well as bathroom facilities (outhouse style) and...More

This canyon was noted as "Scenic and Deep Canyon" in the atlas and it is both. If you have the time, it is worth the stop. The drive out is dusty but easy and you feel like you're a long way from anywhere. There is...More

It is best to go in spring or fall as right now it is to hot to get on the dunes. The night time observing the stars and moon are wonderful.

Beautiful, quiet and remote. After traveling what seems to be a very long way on country roads and then a dirt road through nothing but small hills and then mile after mile of cheat grass, you suddenly come to this deep amazing canyon! From the...More

The Bruneau River flows through this narrow rough canyon and you can imagine the problems that the immigrants faced when they tried to ford the river. Easy drive to the observation point.

Read about the overlook on tripadvisor, went there to "judge for ourselves", and it is definately worth the drive. It's about 18 miles from the town of Bruneau,Idaho. Normal road, only the last approx. 6 miles go over a dirt/gravel road, not too bad at...More

I suggest you start with The Bureau of Land Management Idaho. Please note, for quite a distance the access road is gravel and there's not a lot of room at the parking area.
