Imagine an encounter with giant dinosaurs, the fascination of seeing the actual artifacts of the first explorers to conquer the South Pole 100 years ago, or the allure of creatures that can create their own light. At the Museum of Idaho, you can surround yourself with these wonders of the world. The Museum of Idaho is the intermountain west's premier museum in providing nationally and internationally acclaimed exhibits to the surrounding areas. Showcasing both traveling and permanent exhibits, we are dedicated to preserving and educating the public in the sciences, the humanities, and the natural and cultural history.

RACE TO THE END OF THE EARTH

Jan. 31 - Sep. 1, 2014

The Museum of Idaho is proud to be the 5th museum in the world to host this exhibition, which recounts one of the most stirring tales of Antarctic exploration. Filled with triumph and tragedy, this story chronicles the epic journey of two competing teams in their quest to be the first to reach the South Pole.

GLOW: LIVING LIGHTS

Sep. 26 - Nov. 29, 2014

Have you ever wondered how strange sea creatures light up the ocean? Or what makes a firefly glow? This family-friendly exhibition dives deep into the darkest corners of our earth to shed some light on this fascinating phenomena which allows creatures to produce light for communicating, camouflage, attracting prey, and for other reasons scientists still don't understand.

I really enjoyed this museum. Lots of things for kids to enjoy and interesting for adults too. $9 entrance fee seems just a little high, but they bring in excellent exhibits.

The museum has excellent traveling exhibits, such as "Bodies" as well as a permanent exhibit of local history, flora and fauna, building replicas from the pioneer era, and a few other exhibits. They also have a beautiful free Christmas exhibit of Santa collections, Christmas trees, nativity sets and gingerbread houses.

It is an amazing place to take the family. There is always something new to go see. The boys loved the body exhibit and the Pirates. They are looking forward to going to the hatching the past.

My family and I visited the museum while the dinosaur egg exhibit was in. We all thought if the kids had been toddlers it would have been fun. As it was it was disappointing. We did enjoy the couple rooms about local Idaho history.

My daughter (age 16) and I stopped here on our drive between Montana and California this past summer. The museum isn't so large that it takes hours out of your drive time, but is a welcome break. When we visited they had an amazing pirate exhibit -- even though I'm sure landlocked Idaho has never had a pirate problem. But,... More

We love to come from Wyoming for the special, changing exhibits to augment our children's schooling and to meet up with friends from Inkom, Idaho. We are very pleased with the quality of traveling exhibits we've seen! And the local stuff is excellent, too.

For a smaller city, we boast of a wonderful museum that brings in may traveling displays that normally stay in larger cities. I have enjoyed this museum for many years and look forward to more in the future as upcoming displays sound fascinating. Currently they are doing a free Christmas display featuring some of the Santa stuff along with history... More
