A very interesting historic site with unique design and building decoration. Takes about 20-30 minutes total to see and explore around the cabin. Johnny Sack was innovative and definitely liked to use antlers in his decorating. Lovely views of Big Springs. A picnic area nearby...More

Beautiful historic cabin maintained by the forest service with excellent volunteer help. A true natural wonder. So refreshing to see the origins of a beautiful river simply bubbling out of the ground. Adjacent is a great little forest service campground.

Very beautiful area. Awesome cabin preserved with original furniture, tools used to build it, information about Johnny Sack, and the springs feeding the river. Great area for families and singles.

Original homesteaded site, build by a German immigrant. Great for the kids, don't miss it. Main local attraction.

The Johnny Sack Cabin was an interesting side trip while visiting Big Springs, which is a lovely natural feature on the Henry's Fork of the Snake River.

Talk about a unique place, this is it. It has been preserved, thank goodness. I know the U.S. Government has been seeking out and destroying most of these old artifacts from the past. The powerful environmentalists in the government thinks it's so important to tear...More

Besides visiting the Johnny Sack Cabin, we had the opportunity to volunteer there. Our tours & the reactions by the visitors on hearing Johnny's story, and how he built the cabin by hand. But also "How it got Saved" by the second owners, Thanks to...More

This has to be one of the most frequently visited sites in island park and for good reason. Johnny Sack built his cabin in a great place go see for yourself. Take some white bread for the fish.

Absolutely worth the drive! Make sure to look for the giant fish under the bridge (you may have to look through the decking, but they are there... fish food that sinks will lure them out).

You can read all about Johnny Sack so I won't listed here. It is worth your while to see this home and water wheel that Johnny built with his own two hands. It is on Big Springs which is incredibly cool. Your kids would love...More

I'm not sure what the weather will be that time of year there could be snow. I would suggest stopping at Harriman State Park and or the forest service ranger office right on Route 20. Both of those places can let you know... More
