Fantastic 2hrs spent here, the volunteers do a fantastic job of keeping the old pit head going for the younger generations, great array of machinery mostly made in the greater Manchester area, also a recreation of a miners cottage, complete with underwear on the line,...More

I always really enjoy a potter round this fascinating little place. I grew up in Lancashire and have been sad to see the closure of so many mines. It is lovely to see the last surviving headgear and the winding engine on site here, cared...More

Great early morning outing both enjoyed the museum! With the addition of a small cafe with home cooked food surrounded by enthusiastic people this last reminder of our distant days is sure to be a hit with visitors.

My grandad used to work in mining so took him for a trip to see this place. Unfortunately he is wheelchair bound. He couldn’t look at anything due to no disabled access, couldn’t even go into the cafe for a drink. It’s a shame as...More

We had been planning to come to this museum for a long time. We went to the steam weekend. Parking was a bit chaotic as someone had come out the wrong way, and we parked in a very overgrown field. Loads of different tracton engines,...More

History for people to see what mining was like. Steam traction engine's on today. Plus a little steam train, great for the little ones. Not for the disabled. Uneven ground and stair's to engine house and in the cottage.

I don’t think there is an admission fee. They are running with volunteers and as such, any donations are appreciated.

There are 2or3 services to Texaco garage in Ashley. Then cross A580 east lancs Road for 300 yard walk. No direct service from Leigh.
