About
The Geothermal Exhibition is located inside of the largest geothermal power plant in Iceland. Visitors can take a self-guided audio tour through the exhibition, learning about geothermal energy and production at the plant. From the top floor it is possible to look down into the turbine halls. Guests can see the plant's separation tanks, pipe systems, cooling towers, and more from the viewing decks. The exhibition also has a gift shop, cafe area, and water bottle refill station. Stop by for a visit to the exhibition, or on your way to the beautiful hiking trails in the surrounding area. Our experienced staff is happy to answer questions or chat about sustainable energy.

This was a good learning experience. It is self-guided using your phone. I would like to have had a little more interaction with the staff.

Thank you for your review! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit, but sorry that our staff weren't available. We do our best to always have our team on hand to answer any questions that happen, but this can be difficult on busy days. We will pass this message along to our team. This was a nice stop to break up the drive between Vik & Reykjavik. Super interesting to learn how geothermal heat is used throughout Iceland and other parts of the world.

Our self-guided tour was certainly interesting to an extent. Some facts and figures, interactive demonstrations and videos (repeated in multiple places). I feel it would have been improved by an ability to actually walk-around the generation facility though I appreciate that this would lead to the need for additional health and safety measures to be put in place. As with much of Iceland, a little expensive for what you got.

Thank you for your review and feedback, we're glad that you enjoyed your visit to the exhibition. It is unfortunately not possible to go through the active work areas of the power plant due to safety and security reasons, but we offer good views into the high- and low-pressure turbine halls on the top floor. From the back deck, you can also see the pipe systems, steam regulators, separators, and cooling towers. Our pricing is lower than similar exhibitions and museums in Iceland, but we understand that Iceland is more expensive than many other places :) Thank you for visiting us, and we hope that you enjoy the rest of your stay in Iceland!

A detailed exhibition about geothermal energy - interesting to see and highly recommended to better understand Iceland’s history, present, potential and it‘s landscape.

This is a great stop on another tour. We were planning to tag this onto the end of our GC tour, but bad weather meant we went first thing and then were advised to head back to the city by 11am!

This is an honest review.
It's not worth driving out just to see this alone... try and tag onto another tour.
We got there the same time as a school trip, so we got to listen to a talk, which was interesting, and the lady hosting was super engaging and clearly loved her job.

The actual exhibition is small on 1 floor and doesn't take long to see. If anyone watched the Zac Efron documentary and expected the same experience, you might be disappointed.

Overall, it was good to visit and learn considering the importance of the place to Reykjavik and iceland but not overwhelming

Thank you for your review! We're happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit - we often recommend visitors stopping by as we are the first stop for Golden Circle and South Coast tours. We feel that the exhibition is worth the drive itself as a quick trip from the capital, though we are a bit biased :) The exhibition is spread over three floors, with the main part being on the top - from there you can see into the power plant and interact with a variety of displays and exhibits. The second floor has a dedicated room for Carbfix (CO2 turned into stone) and our Curiosity Corner. The first floor, where you saw the school presentation, has the least amount of information and displays - this floor has free entry, and the rest of the exhibition has an entry fee. We will pass the compliments along to our team, and hope that you enjoy the rest of your stay in Iceland!

If you're looking for something to do, this is the place to go. Amazing exhibit on geothermal energy and how it all works. Information in English (they said other languages coming soon). Easy app to download on phone that gives you the tour. Staff extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and really willing to talk and answer questions. Takes about an hour or so to do it all, and at a decent price.

Very informative self guided tour. Went early in the morning in January and only a few other people were there. Iceland is a special place and the innovations made by Icelandic scientists to utilize and protect their natural resources is commendable. This is a unique opportunity to see how Iceland works. Well worth the admission price.

With an engineer and a former nuclear power operator in the family, you know we would be all over this site. We all enjoyed the displays and explanation of how the wonderful heat and power of Iceland is created.

I would have loved to get inside the turbine rooms but I understand the liabilities involved.

It’s a good way to spend an hour on your way to or from Reykjavik.

It was very interesting exhibition and nicely done. We really enjoyed the time there. At the end of November it was without tourists so we had all place only for us.I would definitely reccomand it.
