Very pitcturesque area along the shores of the Ohio River. Great picnic areas and hiking. The highlight is the cave in the limestone bluff. Very historical with dates on the ceiling from the 1800's. Would be great to visit during summer when the foliage was green.

Cave-In-Rock State Park covers 240 acres outside the town of Cave-In-Rock in Hardin County in southern Illinois. It sits atop the high bluffs overlooking the scenic Ohio River. The heavily wooded park is named for the 55-foot-wide cave that was carved out of the limestone rock by water thousands of years ago. In addition to the natural splendor of the... More

If you haven't been there you need to make the trip. The cave itself it is amazing I have never seen anything like it. And my husband told me stories about the cave back in the day that sounded neat. You would have to google that stuff but really interesting.

A historic area with a great view of the river. Great spot to view the ferry crossing to/from Kentucky and the barges traveling the river.

Take a flash light and head into the cave, but watch your step! Walk all the way back, and off to a small side room, exploring and searching for names from the 19th century. ignore the modern ones. Once out, walk the trails or have a picnic.

This park is easy to access. It is near (just east) the Cave-in-Rock ferry crossing on the Ohio River. We were DELIGHTED to find this natural gem! Not a long walk to the cave (we did encounter a snake on the path), but will come across steep terrain and steps unless one parks below the hill/bluff at the beginning (west... More

The park is located just on edge of a very small town. The ferry across the Ohio River also is located here. The park isn;t huge but has some nice trails and some nice shelters for picnics or just admiring the view. The main attraction of course is the Cave. After going down a large sets of steps you'll be... More

My wife and I stopped here on out way to The Garden of the Gods. We found it very cool. It was a very enjoyable experience and recommend it to anyone passing through.

This was a cool site to see and was beautiful located next to the river. I'd recommend this for most ages and ability levels.

Neat place to stop for an hour or so. Easy pathway to the cave. Vault toilets only. Be sure to ride the ferry too!
