You may be shocked at the entry fee, but it's worth it! Not a place to breeze thru, but to take some thoughtful time to see the world thru the eyes of art and artists. Excellent gift shop and eating spaces. Dont miss the Art Library. Park underground in McCormick Parking

Art is not my passion. That being said, I spent four hours at the Institute between trains on a recent week-end. I found areas of real interest and areas I just passed by. The meal at their restaurant was certainly above the usual attraction presentations. The Institute was busy but not crowded, once you got past the coat check/ticket area.... More

I visited the Art Institute with a toddler in December 2016 and January 2017 after becoming a member. Both experiences were less than stellar due to negative interactions with staff. While the exhibits are beautiful, the overly stuffy atmosphere and rude chastisements from docents were unwelcome and unwarranted. While walking under a hanging exhibit, I looked up to further enjoy... More

Museum has a large collection of many different kinds of artwork. The paperweight collection and miniature house scenes were very interesting and I hadn't seen anything like that at any other art museum before. Only downside to the museum is the layout. You must go to the first floor to go between wings so it is a little difficult to... More

As a visitor from the UK on business, I found myself with just 1 hour to spare before heading out to the airport, and chose to spend it at the Art Institute. It was the best possible way to spend such a rewarding 60 minutes. No time at all to enjoy the enormous and magnificent collections, but aided by a... More

Their Impressionist and Medival galleries are great. Admission lines are way to long and slow. Need to have more people working. Also, it is warm and slightly humid inside, so dress cool.

What hasn't been said about the Art Institute in reviews or news articles? It's massive with SO much to see! And there are always new displays/exhibits coming (and going). If you're visitng, do your homework on what you really want to see and plan accordingly. If you are local, a membership is the best way to enjoy it year round.... More

This was my second trip to the Art Institute of Chicago and I was pleased to notice that a number of the exhibits had changed since my previous visit in 2009.I was particularly excited to see a bust of the Roman emperor Diocletian with a short military haircut, unlike the stylized portraits of him that are most common. Apparently, it... More
