The Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) is a nonprofit cultural organization with tours, exhibitions, programs and events for all ages. Visit CAF on Michigan Avenue to view our 1,000-building scale model of Chicago, shop in our award-winning store, or participate in a fun LEGO® building event in our ArcelorMittal Design Studio. Choose from 85 tours by boat, walking, bus, or even L train, including the CAF River Cruise aboard Chicago's First Lady Cruises. Tours depart daily and are led by CAF's expert docent guides. Every October, check out CAF's free annual Open House Chicago festival. Proceeds from CAF’s tours and gift shop, as well as grants, sponsorships and donations, support this educational mission.

A most interesting tour. We certainly saw interiors of buildings that we would not have entered if we had been walking on our own, and they were stunning - obviously selected for a reason! Guide was very knowledgeable and had lived in Chicago for most...More

We did the 7:30, sunset cruise. It's an hour and a half cruise down the river and back and its amazing. The architect is stunning and the volunteer announcers spend a lot of time describing the details of the history of Chicago. Well worth the...More

If you're going to take an architectural tour, this is the real deal. The tour guides are from the Chicago Architecture Foundation and they are amazing. Book the one that leaves just as the sun is setting for a mix of day and night views.

My wife and I were in town for a wedding and had been looking forward to attending the Architectural River Tour for months. At exactly 5:30 when our tour was to start, the skies opened up and a torrential down pour ensued. However, our amazing...More

We have taken many of the lake and river tours, but this is the best one if your group is fluent in English, interested in architecture and open to learning about the city. This is not the tour for people who just want to be...More

Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable. Had an obvious passion for the architecture of Chicago. Boat ride was smooth and the drinks were pretty good too! Wouldn't hesitate to do this again.

We had a wonderful boat tour led by a knowledgeable and entertaining docent named Kelly. The tour took us through the heart of the city center with great views of all the fascinating Chicago architecture.

We got to take a Chicago River tour during an afternoon pause from my meeting. I grew up in Chicago but hadn't returned for awhile. This was the best tour I have ever heard. The docent from the Foundation was interesting, informative and showed her...More

Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a
good starting point to sample the city's energy and

Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier
shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep
your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many
photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of

Hello! We do not offer river cruises during January and February because the boats are removed from the river for the winter. This year, our season runs from April 1–November 19, 2017. Thank you!
