We came here for "Queen" with a season ticket holder. Our first time, one of many for her. I can understand why she's here often! Ensemble-style play (so several very good actors, vs. a "star"). Really engaging theatre in every aspect, especially the story and character development. Great space--felt like just several dozen seats the way it was laid out,... More

We went to see A Wonder in My Soul; if it's still playing, go see it! The play was wonderful, the players were amazing-loved the 2 leads, and the theater is wonderful. Three high school girls read their own poetry and that of Black women poets, after the play was over, and they were so good too! Really enjoyed this... More

We were fortunate to see the play, "Hand To God" and the cast was very good. The theater itself is very old and has a lot of history. Our seats were good and we could see and hear everything. We like that this theater is trying to bring quality works to Chicago and provide a place to showcase local talent.... More

We just saw the play, Hand to God at Victory Gardens. I hadn't been to the Biograph in a number of years, didn't realize that Victory Gardens had moved there. What a difference! The old theater was black on black, grubby and old, had a funny smell. It's bright and cheerful now with comfortable seats and a good bar. The... More

We saw a play by VGT, held at the Music Box. It was about black women in LA trying to get bought as mistresses to rich white guys. Really well done. Can't wait to see what they do next!

We saw the play "Cocked" while in town over the weekend visiting our son and daughter in law. It was a 3 actor play with no intermission. All three actors made their respective portrayals very realistic. The theater itself was very nice and well preserved. The seating was excellent views from probably any seat in the entire theater. Drinks and... More

This theater is an easy El ride from the loop. Take any northbound train (Red, Brown, Purple) and get off at Fullerton then an easy block and a half to the theater. Much more community scale plays than the Steppenwolf. But still very professionally produced with very competent actors. Currently a world premier play 'Cocked' is playing - great that... More

When I visit Chicago, I make it a point to attend a play at Victory Gardens Theater, housed in the historic Biograph Theatre near Lincoln Park. The company specializes in new plays, especially those that have social relevance. In the past I have enjoyed and been stimulated by the company's productions of Luis Alfaro's "Oedipus el rey" and Kristoffer Diaz's... More
