Holy Name Cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Chicago, and it has an interesting history. However, the most interesting part of the church is the "Galeri of Cardinals." If one looks up above the altar in the rafters, it is possible to see a series of galeri, which were the wide-brimmed hats that cardinals of the Catholic Church... More

A great experience to go to mass while visiting the city. The Cathedral is so beautiful and well maintained.

We've been to mass here a couple of times and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The organist and choir were wonderful. The lectors were well prepared. The altar servers assisted flawlessly. All-in-all a dignified, beautiful liturgy. The Cathedral itself -meh. I was disappointed. Very plain and uninspiring. The ceiling is beautiful, as is the crucifix hanging over the altar. But it... I walked to mass on Sunday morning then again Tuesday morning- Election Day. The music- choir and organ- on Sunday was lovely! Truly magnificent and filled the sanctuary. I enjoyed the friendly, light hearted welcome of the priest Sunday as well. Tuesday was a smaller, quieter and simple mass but I enjoyed it just the same. I'll definitely return next... More

One recent Sunday while visiting Chicago we stopped here for Mass. Upon stepping in I was immediately struck by the beauty of the ceiling, probably still from the original construction. However as we looked around and took in the remainder of the building we couldn't help but notice the barrenness of the front altar. It seemed to be just bare... More

It was a moving to experience the interior of the cathedral while listening to the music and the priest during a service. Very nice and highly recommended.

We just took a quick step inside and sat for a few meditive moments. The pipe organ was stunning to see, wish we could have heard it.

In whatever city I am visiting, come Sundays I try to seek out that city's cathedral as a place to attend Sunday mass. Not only are they usually places of exceptional architectural beauty, but they are also usually steeped in local history, and to worship there gives one a sense of connection to the past. Chicago's Holy Names is no... More

When I entered Holy Name, it reminded me of being in some of the gothic cathedrals in Europe. Though it isn't as historically significant as those in Europe, it's interior is significant due to the beautiful wooden ceiling and gothic inspired aura. Worth a visit.

We attended the mass to support the work the churches are doing to end domestic violence. It was our first time there and it is a beautiful place of worship.

Thank Beth B
