I am an avid bicyclist and love to ride to the south end of the lake front bike trail at least 3 times a week. I stop in at the Cultural center to cool off, get a drink use the sparkling clean restrooms and look out at the lake. There is a nice beach here; a small but nice native... More

OH DEAR WHERE DO I START....... This is my first time going to the Chicago Margarita Festival and I was very excited to attend. The one for 2016 was held off South Shore Beach and this was one of the worse events I have ever went to. First, off it didn't feel like a margarita festival at all. I was... More

The beach is small and somewhat secluded. It is clean and well staffed. Very family oriented. I would suggest going during the week before 3 pm as it tends to be less crowded. But the absolute best time to go is when there is an overcast and the temp. is about 80 or less. That coupled with winds about 10-15... More

JMJ Have always meant to get into this Center and this weekend was Open House Chicago and it was open for investigating. Converted country club taken over by the Chicago Park District. The Chicago Police Dept Mounted Police are housed in the old stables and golf is available on the golf course. The club house has exquisite ballrooms and meeting... More

The grounds were beautiful and the ballroom was breathtaking. There was plenty of parking. We went for the beach. It was small but nice. Great view of the city! It was 4th of July so it was very busy with families bbqing on the lawn but the beach itself wasn't crowded at all. It was shallow and after a small... More

Staying in South Shore

Neighbourhood Profile
South Shore
Notable Chicagoans call the South Shore neighborhood their childhood home. Undoubtedly they spent time at Rainbow Beach, one of the city’s largest beaches. The park there offers one of the best views of Chicago’s skyline. This South Side neighborhood is best explored in the daytime. You’ll get an unfettered glimpse at a variety of architectural styles in both its residential homes and larger structures. Landmarks like the New Regal Theater built in the style of a Moorish theater and Saint Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church with its Tudor-revival influences are visually arresting. Take a short stroll through the landmark Jackson Park Highlands District for a taste of unique early 20th-century urban planning and large mansions. The South Shore Cultural Center is yet another unique structure and treasure in Chicago’s arts and culture community, complete with galleries, studios, a golf course, and a 600-seat theater.
