The green drapes from "Gone with the Wind" are one of the many interesting items on display at this 22-room Italianate-style home. Built in 1857, the mansion now exhibits period furnishings and also includes items from the estate of flamboyant entertainer Liberace.

This was an interesting tour. The house is privately owned and the owners live there. The guides told us about the house and where some of the furniture came from but it was packed with stuff and I'm sure it didn't depict how residents lived...More

We enjoyed our tour. There is not a lot of Galena history beyond the house structure itself, but the collection by the owner more than made up for that fact. It was interesting to see and worth the time.

This isn't about history. It seems to be about some collectors who have stored purchases in every inch of space in a large hodgepodge of rooms and charging a rather steep admission fee (for what you get).

The outside of this house is beautiful and ornate, the inside is filled with museum quality furnishings, paintings and objects. The interior is well maintained and the downstairs docent had a sense of humor as he showed us through the house and talked about the...More

Save your money at this house by simply admiring it's stunning architecture from the street. While it is a beautiful home by any standard, the tour just shows off the hodge-podge collection of antiques and collectables gathered by the owners. One can hardly see the...More

The most memorable aspect of the interior of this lovely home was the original green velvet curtains from the classic movie, Gone With The Wind (later more famously used in a skit in the Carol Burnett Show). I am rating this attraction as a 5...More

The interior of the home is chockablock with thee owner's collection of furniture, paintings and decorative art. The first tour guide was new but did quite well. Definitely worth a visit.

We had 2 great hosts with great knowledge and enjoyed the tour, but found it a little disappointing that all furnishings (except 2 items) in the house are from elsewhere. Also disappointing, tour pamphlets mentions 22 rooms, but the Third floor is off limits for...More

Enjoyed the visit to the Belvedere Mansion - was disappointed that we were not allowed onto the top floor. Wish that there would not have been so many items that were added from various collections. It was very crowded and could have been more "period"...More

I happened to drive by this grand home and I stopped for a tour. I love the big porches and the tower. This may be the most grand home in Galena. I saw a couple of other smaller, similar ones but this was the biggest....More
