So you have come to the proverbial fork in the road at Diagonal St. and Main St. There is a sign on the corner building that points directly at the Dowling House and the companion visitor's center. What is the Dowling House? It is the...More

This house was one of the first places we wanted to visit just because of it's historical significance. The house was filled with artifacts that went with the house and it's history. It was very neat to see! The tour guide was less than thrilling....More

This was a strange site. The history of the site was interesting, but it wasn't until the end of the tour when we realize the tour guide LOCKED us in! had there been a fire or something, we would have been toast, because there was...More

Maybe it was an "off" day for them, we don't know. However, it was just a very plain jane tour and we wanted to know more about the family who built it and lived there. The "general store" below was neat to know about, and...More

Built in 1826, the Dowling House is just a simple stone structure, but it represents the rich history of the riverside town. They offer tours, but unless you're really into the history of the place, you could skip the tour; there are many places with...More

We were there on, I believe, Thursday, August 3rd. It was pouring rain and we were held out in it even after start of tour time. We were a polite, mature group. The tour guide, a tall, slender, 50ish gentleman, rather ruined viewing this beautiful,...More

Very historic and the staff here is so sweet and friendly. Good but very brief tour. Not sure its worth $10.00 a person for 30 min? But its something to see for sure!

This tour had a lot of information about different inventions that I had never known about. The second floor was the living quarters and learned about how life was in this time period. Start here and get a combination ticket for the Belvedere.

Stopped to see this home because of it is the oldest stone structure in Illinois. Tried to get a tour according to website hours but was told trolley tour trumped the public even if trolley is late or doesn't show up. Had to come back...More

Belvedere Mansion is also included. It's a beautiful old place. The man who owned it was quite a collector so the house is full of interesting things.
