This Italianate-style brick house, with original furnishings, looks very much as it did in 1865 when a group of townspeople presented it as a gift to Ulysses S. Grant on his victorious return from the Civil War.

Loved the tour of the home and our guide was excellent. Don’t miss this. The home and most furnishings are Origional. Its like the Grants just moved out.

I am an amateur historian and taking the tour of President Grants home was a treat. The home feels like it is the 1860's. The tour guide did a wonderful job detailing the history of the Grants in Galena. Beautiful Home.

It was very intriguing to see a lot of the original furnishings and understand the story behind the life of Ulysses S. Grant. It was raining yesterday so this made a perfect rainy day field trip. Definitely worth a visit.

A great piece of American history. The $10 donation is well worth the money. They have gone to great lengths to ensure the house is in original condition.

The home of the 18th U.S. president overlooks Route 20 to the south and downtown Galena to the west. It's smallish for a mansion but extremely well preserved, as are it's furnishings, most of which are original. The volunteer staff are very well versed on...More

The Grant Home is a short walk from Jail Hill Inn, well worth it and to see the statue of Mrs. Grant!

Donations...but may as well be a charge as you could get some stink eye for not throwing anything in the pot.
