A wonderful collection of train memorabilia

In the interests of full disclosure, my great grandfather was the station manager in Galesburg many many year ago, so I was predisposed to liking this place. It's family. But as... read more

While in town for the day watching trains, I stopped at the railroad museum mainly to see the large engine and cars outside. It's not hard to figure out that railroads had and still have a big influence on Galesburg today. The building itself has a lot of artifacts ranging from old switchboards to dining sets. The big highlight though... More

Great local museum showing many historical things related to the railroads in our area. Be sure to take the passenger car tour.

The engine, mail car, pullman car, and caboose are well worth the visit. We are a big 'visit RR museum' family, and we learned new things and especially enjoyed the mail car. The temperature was blistering (90+) but the uniqueness of the cars made the heat bearable. The museum is nice. I enjoyed reading through the scrapbook of the adventures... More

We arrived in Galesburg in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. After getting our hotel room squared away, we headed to the down town area. We approached the Railroad Museum and were amazed by the massive train on display - absolutely amazing! Unfortunately, we came to understand the museum closed at 4pm and we arrived at 3:45pm - shame on... More

In the interests of full disclosure, my great grandfather was the station manager in Galesburg many many year ago, so I was predisposed to liking this place. It's family. But as small museums go, it's really well done. From the office set ups inside the building that allow you to see how a busy train depot worked back in the... More

The staff and membership of the Galesburg Railroad Museum have done an excellent job in presenting artifacts that will fascinate anyone interested in railroading. You can see the nuts and bolts of railroading--conductors' uniforms, old roundhouse and carman tools, vintage passenger train dining ware, photos of places and people in the old Galesburg CB&Q Yard, a replica of an agent-operator's... We had wanted to check this out, but on arrival it was sprinkling rain lightly and we were told the train portion of the museum was guided only and that the guide would not guide anyone in the rain. We kept our money and moved on.

My son loves trains and is always exited to go here. There is also a place here called discovery depot. That's for little kids though. But it's still a really fun place!

Happened to stop here on a Monday when it was closed. Did have a good time walking around the train yard and looking at the steam train. Learned some new things. Looked through the windows of the main building and saw some neat exhibits.
