- SleeplessinSDSan Diego, California367 contributionsA very special placeHow can you not love staying in a place where nyalas bed down on the lawn in front of your cabin? Or where you see white rhino at the water hole on the way to the restaurant? (An electrified fence keeps the animals from butting in on the buffet.) The only light in our cabin came from two kerosene lanterns and a candle, but an enormous mosquito net made me feel more secure. Overall, the operation seemed professional, warmed by the friendliness of the staff. We were delighted when we were able to book a sunrise safari at the very last minute the preceding afternoon. It turned out to be fantastic.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 23, 2023
- TAO37Wales, United Kingdom26 contributionsSpecial Hlane Park experienceGreat park and felt so special and quiet. Small but plenty to see, and we had a great time sitting by the water hole outside reception/restaurant watching rhino’s and bird life. Site map a little confusing, and bird hide is just after the picnic/bird hide sign -drive slowly so you can’t miss it! No electric in the cabins - but lovely lit hurricane lamps provided at nightfall. Grateful for mosquito nets at night given the interesting insect life! We self catered and used restaurant. Restaurant food tasty but I’d suggest that you have separate Amarula and coffee rather than the suggested Amarula coffee!!! Barn owl visited restaurant in the evening - fantastic end to the night.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 15, 2024
- ArxitexterFort Lauderdale, Florida1,610 contributionsOutstandingWe booked 4 cabins for an overnight stay and an early morning guided safari for our party of 7. While communication prior to our visit was difficult everything was sorted on arrival. There is a full bar and gift shop next to the reception and fronting a pond where hippopotamus and other wildlife gather in the mornings and evenings. The cabins were very comfortable, with full toilet and bath facilities. Hurricane lanterns and candles are provided and the beds are protected with mosquito netting. The morning safari (recommended) was delightful. Our group saw wild chicken, Springbok, Woolly legged stork, ingala, lions and lioness, giraffes, elephants, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, and impala, countless birds and termite nests. We also stopped at a specimen Euphorbia ingens (“Candelabra tree”). The park demonstrates impressive conservation efforts and there is a display of over 20,000 snares removed from the bush by forest rangers since 1970s.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten March 24, 2024
- Benedicte L8 contributionsWould recommend to anyoneWe absolutely loved our stay at Hlane!! The guides are full of knowledge and eager to share. Would definitely recommend the overnight trek with Johannes and Mosi!! They made it so much fun and a unique experience sleeping outside inside the park. 10/10 would recommend!Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten June 22, 2024

A short drive from Manzini (which took longer because of roadworks, but fingers crosses the new road comes into use soon, the old one is barely holding on).
Hlane is an old favourite of mine and my family's. There is no electricity and the main lighting is from paraffin lamps. My Australian husband struggles with the concept of no electricity for chargers or lights or such, but I absolutely love the ambiance and relaxed atmosphere the paraffin lamps present.
A favourite pastime is sitting with view of the waterhole, having a cocktail in summer or hot chocolate in winter and watching the beautiful animals, big and small frequent the little water source.
Food is delicious and accomodation is charming.
The bush walk is gorgeous and should be done, as well as the drives available.
Summer is a struggle in the heat, so I would suggest autumn or spring.

We stayed two nights in the Wisteria Camp. The little huts are equipped with all you need, but no electricity, which is a nice experience ;-).
A safari is a must and we did the sunrise tour which was 2.5 hours. The guides know where to go and ask you what your preferences are. We saw lions, rhinos, vultures, giraffes, elephants plus many more...
Even when sitting at the restaurant and watching the wild life around the waterhole, you get all sorts of animals very close and you can take great pictures. Well, the hippos are a little lazy and you can only see part of them.
The restaurant s good, staff is friendly and supportive. Food is also good.
One thing that needs to be improves is guest information when checking in! You do not get any information about breakfast or dinner times, when there are buffets or when breakfast/dinner needs o be preordered. A simple piece of paper with the most important points would do, either at check-in or in the room.

We really loved our stay at Hlane. The lack of electricity was not an issue for us. Although we were only two people, we stayed at the Big Hut, which can accommodate a large family. The room was well equipped, quiet and comfortable.
I also highly recommend taking a game walk with Stu, who was extremely knowledgeable.
Compared to Kruger, this is a quiet and more intimate safari experience. The park is beautiful (although the use of fenced areas do create a slightly artificial feel), but don't expect to see as much as you see in Kruger.

Our first stop on our first visit to Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) and we were very impressed. Set in gracious parkland are a number of beautiful, thatched round buildings, and under each tree were wooden lounge seats to watch the animals at the watering hole. Greeted warmly and efficiently at the thatched reception, we settled down in the tree shaded restaurant for a really tasty lunch of burgers and the most delicious chips, with home made iced tea. Our jaws dropped when a rhino, then another, came 'on stage' to drink at the waterhole. A beautiful sight. Our accommodation was at Boubezi cottages across the park and with our own view of the wildlife, a bit like the garden of Eden. We had 2 wonderful game drives, where we walked with a rhino family (breathtaking!) and learnt so much about the animals and plant life.

We stayed in one of the roundel huts, frequently visited by nyala deer. The hut was clean and perfectly adequate with hot and cold water but no electricity. Lighting is by paraffin lamp, two arrived promptly at dusk. They will recharge your phone/camera at reception.
From the lodge area we saw white rhino, impala, reedbuck and nyala and numerous birds. Morning and evening, the rhino and other animals visit the waterhole and are easy to see at close quarters. We took a game drive and a game walk and saw, in addition, lion and giraffe as well as vultures and other interesting birds. On the walk we were very close to a mother and baby rhino.
The restaurant is OK for meals, breakfasts were excellent and service was always good.

We loved this park! Right away when passing the entrance gate you feel the super calm and relaxed atmosphere. The water hole is in the middle of the park so we had breakfast with the rhino's. Also the huts were very cute and the beds were super comfy. Would definitely go back!

Lovely little park where you can do a two hour long safari drive. There is a restaurant at the main area upon entry to the park. Alongside here there is a watering hole so if you are patient you will see many animals come towards you - hippos and rhinos! Totally worth a half day visit if you are in the area.

Hi Batear,
We are in Swaziland in July & were hoping to visit Hlane en-route to Kruger. Is it possible to self drive through the park? If so, how much are the daily conservation fees.
Thanks
Chris Jones
Written March 16, 2017
Yes you can. Not sure of the fees. Bit you will see much more in Kruger then Hlane

Hi there, Please inform me if we can camp in your National Park and is it safe, i.e. is the camp fenced off from the rest of the park?
Kind regards
