I've always been fascinated with primates, particularly our closest genetic relatives — chimpanzees. The Budungo forest offered an unparalleled chance to observe these animals in their natural habitat. We were simultaneously up close and personal and at a safe distance. My guide, David (â€+256 771 830 749‬) was excellent and made the experience even better. He was very friendly and offered insights into the behavior and biology of the chimpanzees. He even helped find a group of black and white colobus monkeys after the tour had officially ended. I would highly recommend a chimp trek in the Budungo forest, particularly with David as their guide, to anyone in the area. It was one of the highlights of my trip to Uganda.

It is a lovely place to visit to know more about flora and fauna, i managed to site some good trees, mostly it is occupied by the mahogany.
I managed to see the chimpanzees and it was interested to be there.
it is worth visit if you love nature

Budongo Forest is a forestered area of the greater Murchison Falls National Park.
It lies in Western Uganda and is a home to a stable community of chimpanzees both for research and tourism.
In addition to chimpanzees , the park is home to the rare tree Hyrax and endemic bird species Nahans francolin
. Most of the Lodges to Budongo and Murchison Falls are inside and At a budget level, and because of this tourists resort to having an overnight in Masindi town to meet low costs.
A new Hotel and camp has berm put up to solve this."NEWMAN'S CAMP"
It's just 70m , and it takes one 1 to 2 hrs drive to Murchison Falls.
The lodge is located at
Kicumbanyonbo gate.
Room costs

Camping
$10 par day.
Hiring a tent is $20.
Meals:

We stayed overnight at the Budongo Forest Eco lodge and had a great time visiting the forest. Our Chimp treck was cut slightly short as a storm brought large hail stones which were painful despite being in the forest. Unfortunately the chimps were wiser than us and decided to seek shelter, so we didn't manage to see any. Was a good 5-mile walk, searching for them and despite not finding the chimps, it was a most enjoyable walk. Woulkd definitely recommend a visit to the forest.

We a great time with our guide David during a two hour nature walk. The forest is beautiful, although you are quite close to the road, within one minute you fee like you are deep inside the rainforest. David knows a lot about the forest and especially the birds. Besides he was very nice to talk to. He had a lot of nice recommendations for the rest of our trip. Thank you so much.

Had a fantastic experience walking through the forests of Budongo Reserve! I had thought it was a mere pitstop en-route Murchison to Kampala - but it turned out to be far more than that and a destination by itself. Wish I had spent a full day here!
The forest walk with my guide - Don was lovely. A nature class in itself.
Unfortunately, I did not do the Chimpanzee tracking (having done Chimpanzee tracking twice already - I suppose I was trying to cut on some costs) - but am told it is a great experience!
Budongo Eco-lodge is fabulous and makes the Budongo experience even better.
The only problem is the devastation caused by the monstrous oil highway ripping through the forest. Chimpanzee calls echo through the forest - but is increasingly grated by the noise of the dirty trucks running on the highway - even at night! What a tragedy! Wild areas in Uganda are increasingly under threat and this selfish action by the Government would be the last nail in the coffin!
