Courthouse Tree occupies a unique place among cities of the world by reason of trees that are growing from the roof of its courthouse tower. The presence of these trees on the courthouse tower is just as much a mystery to the citizens of Greensburg as to those who look upon it for the first time.

Greensburg is a sleepy little town in south central Indiana near the intersection of highways 3 and 421. It is famous in the Hoosier state for having a tree growing out of the courthouse roof. If your your travels take you anywhere near the area it is worth swinging by just to take in the sight, especially if you have... More

Came to Greensburg for a wedding. A nice town to visit. Love the old courthouse squares & Greensburg's is quite unique with a tree growing out of the top of the courthouse.

My husband had described the tree growing on the courthouse roof for some time, having been raised in Indiana & had seen it years ago. Greensburg was a nice lunch spot on our travels & we enjoyed a nice walk around the town to see the tree and really enjoyed the architechturial detail of many of the other buildings.

We read about this on trip advisor and it was across the street from where we ate. It was interesting to see a tree growing from the roof of the tower. We later read the story about how this came to be.

We came to Greensburg to find the best tenderloin sandwich in Indiana at Stories' Restaurant and saw the tree growing from the courthouse roof just across the street. It truly is something to behold. You can read about the tree on the Stories menu and you can take neat photos of it. The square is set in a pretty town... More

The tree is ancient and is a landmark that draws me to this town to see the square and all it's life and monuments of time gone bye.

An Indiana welcome center clued us in on this local site, so we took a quick detour to make sure we gave it a look. It is indeed as advertised – a mulberry tree (two, actually) growing out of the County Courthouse tower. The area surrounding the courthouse is a lovely town square, with plenty of places to sit and... More

We didn't have an opportunity to go into the courthouse to see what type of tourist attraction they might have in relation to the tree, but we viewed it from the outside and it is interesting to see a full sized (appeared to be) tree growing within a structure. Made me very curious about how they deal with the growth... More

Kind of a gentle thrill, for those who enjoy Americana. 146 year old tree, growing out of the shingles. Gotta love it.
