A quick lesson on the Indiana State constitution, some songs by a chanteuse doing Cole Porter, and a visit to the Ball Canning company were among the interesting experiences we had at this museum and genealogy center. The café on site was perfect for an alfresco lunch on the canal, and all six of us enjoyed our visit.

Visited with my children (8, 11, and 13). The children loved the Cole Porter exhibit (this was a surprise) the most. I would have liked it more if they had songs from "Kiss Me Kate". The singer, while she sang well, could have made more of an effort at matching the ambience and period. My favorite exhibit was about Canning.... More

We brought our friends and their large family here because we are members of IHS. I would say the kids weren't bored overall. The Historical Society isn't very big so it definitely wouldn't overwhelm you. You can spend about two hours here and still be able to learn something new about Indiana you've never known before.

The Indiana Historical Society was a delightful place to visit. It is situated right off the canal just a short walk from all the major downtown hotels. There are 4 rooms within the Society where there take you back in time to different eras in Indiana history with real life reenactment. You get to actually see and touch history as they... More

Indiana and it's contributions come to life here. Interactive technology greets you, as well as short video vignettes that entertain and inform. Our kids love the interactive booths where they can choose what they would like to learn. Live interactions with period actors and volunteers was fun and the Cole Porter bar and live singer (you can request a song... More

We stopped by recently to see the T. C. Steele art exhibit and we were very impressed. We came on a Thursday when the admission is free, but the museum is worth the price of admission if you come any other day. The interior of the building itself is beautiful, and it is full of Indiana history, which makes for... More

What a delightful way to spend a morning or afternoon while also stepping back into the past. The interactive exhibits are creative and informative. This isn't a dry helping of history. Instead, you step into a picture or a setting (such as LS Ayres) and talk with enactors who totally embrace their historic roles. Want to hear a live rendition... More

I really enjoyed the afternoon at the Indiana Historical Society. My favorite part was talking to the actors located in the Cole Porter Room, then the statehood room, and the canning room. The department store actor was just returning to the room as we were leaving so we didn't talk to her. That part of the tour made it more... More

This is an excellent place to see Indiana History. It doesn't always get the notice it should. If you like history, you'll like this place.

We were in search of family history from the 1820s or so, and this wonderful museum fit the bill. A delightful way to spend an afternoon indulging our historic nerdiness.
