My Uncle almost got on the USS Indianapolis when it was in Guam right before the fateful day. We will always remember our proud service members who lost their lives in this tragedy.

A nice place to reflect and learn some history, the USS Indianapolis has a fascinating story and the memorial does a nice job honoring that. Parking (street) is available on Senate and On Capital. Enjoy the canal (about 3 mile walk) in downtown Indy.

I came across this memorial on a Saturday morning while walking southbound along the canals. It is Important but not terribly interesting for me. It was surrounded by pretty quaint homes. If you’re passing by, you should check it out but you shouldn’t go out...More

This is one story that you do not hear a lot about. I was fortunate enough to know a survivor and pay my respect each year when I attend the Indy 500.

The historical nature of the memorial is good. You can read up on the USS Indianapolis and if you don't know much about history you will get a good quick history lesson. The memorial is very solemn when the River Walk is quiet. I would...More

I remember reading about the tragic sinking of the USS Indianapolis and the resulting shark attacks on the 900 survivors. The memorial does a very good job summarizing the accomplishments of this ship and her crew on the front side. On the back side of...More

We came across the U.S.S. Indianapolis Memorial almost by accident, but when we found ourselves nearby, we decided to stop and visit it. The memorial serves as a reminder of the important job that the U.S.S. Indianapolis did to help end the war, by delivering...More

Knowing the story of the USS Indianapolis and the role it played in ending WWII, it is gratifying to see the monument first built and second placed in beautiful location. As an aside, I have on more than one occasion stood outside the Masonic Temple...More
