Nicknamed the "Little Smokies" because of the area's resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains, Brown County encompasses nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges and fog-shrouded ravines. Glaciers from the most recent ice ages stopped short of the "hills o' Brown," but their meltwaters helped create the narrow ridges, steep slopes and deep gullies of Brown County State Park. Indiana's largest park is a traditional fall color hot spot, with nearly 20 miles of tree-lined roads and many scenic vistas overlooking miles of uninterrupted forestland.

Nature at it best! We. Only had time to drive through but what we saw was beautiful. I think it would be a great place for hikes and picnics. Then go to the town of Nashville for shopping therapy as it is an artisans paradise,

Be sure to find the waterfall on your hike. Plenty of hiking available, and check out the Abe Martin Lodge.

In the frigid temperatures of winter, the Abe Martin Lodge has a wonderful 'real wood' fireplace to enjoy. There are plenty of cushy chairs and couches to lounge in. Books, games and puzzles are included for pasting the time while enjoying the fire. For families the Lodge comes equipped with an Aquatic Center (which is included in the price of... More

A friend and I went to the park on a warmer winter day in Indiana (50F) and were lucky to go on a free admission day. It was beautiful even in the winter and well maintained for the most part. The bathrooms could use a little more attention, but we didn't expect much more from a state park. We walked... More

Brown County is beautiful in the winter but driving in the park is limited. Road to Ogle Lake was closed and park attendant told us to go there for pictures. Driving in the park is dangerous.
