We had a wonderful experience. If you park on Diana where it says no permit needed make sure you park all the way out of the street. Got a ticket for 72 dollars for our tire being a millimeter on the road. We were so mad Because there was no visible sign giving us this warning but we will know for next time. Children had a great experience as well. Went memorial weekend. It was nice because it was crowded but you could still find a place to set your stuff down and distance yourself since it is in quarantine time. The farther down you went the more secluded it was.

From West Beach, Ogden Dunes Beach was about a fifteen (15)-minute walk. The water was very calm and colorful when I visited this site. This beach was much emptier than West Beach. I saw many boats and lake-homes. The power-plant was not far from this beach.

While I agree that Ogden Dunes Beach is fabulous - it is not a public beach. It is a residential community and parking is restricted by permit for residents. Violators are ticketed and may be towed. There are also no bathroom facilities and no life guards. If you want to spend a carefree day on the beach, do yourself a favor and head to the nearby West Beach Unit of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Or go a bit further east to the Indiana Dunes State Park. At both of these locations there is public parking, a pavilion with bathrooms and refreshments, and lifeguards (in the summer season of course). The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore has several other beaches with varying degrees of amenities that are open to the public east of the state park as well. Here you will enjoy the SAME beautiful "singing sand", dunes, water and view, without first having to drive around the town of Ogden Dunes only to discover there is nowhere to park anywhere near the beach.... By the way, both Indiana Dunes State Park and the National Lakeshore also have camping sites if you are up for more than a day trip!

Ignore the fellow who wants to keep you out. It is in fact a public beach. Yes, you may not be able to park too closely but not only is the beach public but there are official beach access points between some homes. Drop your group off and then park outside the restrictive area. West side of Diana near Sunset Trail for example works well with the beach access path west of 146 Shore Drive.

Parking area near the beach is residents only. All other streets near beach are not permitted, and you will get towed or ticketed. The best place for non-residents to park is at the corner of Diana and Sunset (you'll see the no beach parking beyond this point signs) and walk to the beach. It's a 6 minute walk (.3 mile) along the street, or you can walk thru the West Beach National Park area to the west and it's about 10 minutes (very pretty this way). You'll be rewarded with a quiet, no crowd beach and best part it's FREE! It's about a 15 minute walk on the beach if you want to go to the West Beach house for bathrooms or concessions.

There is very little beach left due to the high water levels. The pier is very nice as well as the marina for kayaking or boating, but the beach has really taken a hit.

We were In Portage Indiana, and it was 95 degrees in late September. We took an early walk along the dunes and relaxed on the beach. What a wonderful day. It was a bit hazy, however, you could make out Chicago. Water was flat the day we were there. Easy access to the water. There is a large parking lot with a paved walkway to the beach if you are not interested in climbing any dunes.

What can I say about Ogden dunes Beach, it’s beautiful, it’s super clean, and very very private.
I love coming here with my significant other and my dogs and just hanging out, there are others around you but it almost feels private.
This is a place for those who want to meditate take in the views of nature take a hike in the dunes and then take a dip in the water... pure R&R!
A perfect spot for a beach picnic.

This beach is always very nice. I love walking it looking for beach glass and other treasures sent by the lake. It is a long walk from parking, but worth it. Lake Michigan is wonderful in good weather, and the worst place on the planet in bad weather so make sure you go on a nice weather day. The Dunes are a treasure and this is a great place to enjoy them.

My family enjoyed a family reunion on the beach and had a great time. The surf was up and the water was surprisingly warm.
