This iconic Terre Haute landmark opened on January 28, 1922, and occupies a special place in American theatre architecture design. The Theatre was built by Terre Haute resident T.W. Barhydt to be a lasting gift to the city of Terre Haute and it was designed by America’s preeminent designer John Eberson to be his first prototype “Atmospheric Theatre” which became his signature style that is recognized to be the gold standard of American theatre design. Throughout its rich history, the Theatre has hosted a wide range of events that have included vaudeville, cinema, performing arts and community celebrations of all types. Through restoration efforts which began in May 2013, the Indiana Theatre’s heritage has been preserved and the Indiana has been reborn as a 1,600 seat full service event center which can host a wide range of community gatherings that include live entertainment, performing arts, cinema, wedding events, and fundraisers. While visiting our proud and historic city, we encourage you to visit this downtown treasure which has served as a vault for Terre Haute memories since 1922.

What a great atmosphere. I have seen this building change each time someone bought it and renovated it. Today it is at it's height of glory! There are so many chances to go there and see all kinds of entertainment and there is even food served for the dinner and a movie evenings. I would recommend this venue.

We attended a wedding in the evening at the theater and was very disappointed that there was no air conditioning. Evidently it had broken down days before and the management never even thought to contact the wedding party and discuss options. We understand things like this can happen but their lack of communication with the bride and groom was nonexistent... More

My mom used to take me to watch Disney movies here when they first came out. Yes, I'm 50 years old, it was a long time ago. However, I also saw my first horror movie here, the very first Friday the 13th when it was brand new in theaters. And I went to my first Rock concert here. The Indiana... More

Our daughter and her husband recently held their wedding reception at the Indiana Theatre. Wonderful venue. Loads of space, in what was the main lobby, for tables and dining arrangements. In the theatre space, they accommodated the bar and dancing area and were able to show a continuous slide show of the couple and their families growing up. What a... More

As many have already stated, the building is very historic. I attended a wedding and reception there in August. The air conditioning was out, so they made the attempt to cool it with some industrial air conditioning units, but it did not work. The wedding was held on stage and the seats were HORRIBLE. The noise from the A/C units... More

Beautiful old building, built like a old opera house. Craftmanship and design like nothing I have seen , a true treasure. I have seen movies, concerts and presentations here.

The Indiana Theatre is the gem of Terre Haute. This building showcases the architecture of old- old money, that is. The community keeps up the appearance and offers a wide range of activities, shows, and events for recreation and fundraising. Rocky Horror is a MUST!
