Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

The pieces are large and beautiful and a great way to stretchy your legs. Many of the pieces are open, so you can walk up to them or in them.

We strolled through here on a cold Saturday afternoon. Wasn't busy at all so got some good photos of the sculptures, and only heard one group of screaming kids. We were surprised at how NOT busy downtown Des Moines is for being so large.

The garden is easily accessible in a large green space. There are works by 22 artists ranging from a large cylindrical wall of colored panels, a large hollow, incomplete head, things that look like spiders, trees, and abstracts. My only complaint is the information was...More

Good street parking. Great spot to kill a hour or so looking at the different sculptures. Felt safe. I did read one review that said watch out for goose stuff everywhere-its actually from them aerating the grounds, it is not droppings.

Great question! Since the Pappajohn Sculpture Park is technically a city park, dogs are more than welcome.

Great question! The area is well-lit at night including street lights as well as individual spotlights on a number of the sculptures in the park.
