The monument for Julien Dubuque is also his established grave site here. It sits on the top of the Hill, above Catfish Creek and the railroad runs north and south, just down below it. You can see IA, IL & WI from here. Enjoy the river, the boaters & always lots of fishing going on down at the Mississippi. It's... More

A part of the Mines of Spain State Park bearing the name of the man who came down the Mississippi and mined lead in the Catfish Creek area of the park. The monument stands on a bluff high above the river and honors one of the first settlers west of the Mississippi.

Very nice monument overlooking the river and the backwaters. A short walk on a concrete path with benches for relaxing and enjoying the view.

We had taken a river boat ride and noticed a "castle" looking building high on a bluff and asked what it was. We were told it was Julien Dubuque's burial. We asked how to get there. We were told it was in the Mines of Spain park. So when we left the boat ride, we put Mines of Spain address... More

When one thinks of a monument one often thinks of a somber tribute to a famous person recalling that person's life. So true does this monument cause one to reflect upon the life of Julien Dubuque but with celebration. This glorious park overlooks the city of Dubuque and the Mississippi River. Beautiful and handicap accessible the view is magnificent particularly... More

Bug Spray is important in July. However the birds were entertaining. Definitely recommend this walk.
