The canyon in this park is breathtakingly gorgeous, in part because it's unexpected. Climb up to the overlook to see the river, and drive to the Julien Dubuque Monument for some Dubuque history and a closer view of the city.

Lots of trails to explore and a good visitor center which explains the history of the area. Don't miss the bird watching area in the back of the visitor center.

Visited interpretive center. Relatively small but presented well about the area. Exhibits includes animals, birds, indians, original family farms, and lead mining. Gift shop area. Donations. Yes. It is posted 'on leash', but many do not. When we walk with a dog, I call her to come when I see another person and leash her. She obeys so it is easy. Also, one should plan on cleaning up the dirty. Dogs love the area... More

We did not see any grills but plenty of picnic tables.
