About
Sonberk is a modern winery nestled within 40 hectares of vineyard dating back to the 13th century. Through the unique pairing of soil and sun the vineyard gives origin to healthy grapes - for an unique, unforgettable wine. The wining house was designed by Josef Pleskot in a modern style combining wood, glass and concrete with the most beautiful view of Palava Hills, an UNESCO protected heritage site. Therefor Sonberk is much more than a winery - it is a place to be.

Expensive and not the best but the best known
Welcome not very smiling
Unlike us here you pay for the tasting with each drink even if you buy wine
Count 30 minutes on site
It is the 1st cellar that you will see then certainly the place is superbly furnished with a beautiful view but the area is riddled with other much cheaper cellars and with a possible welcome in anglet of better and cheaper wines. Go to Mikulov is you will find something to taste

Found in the Routard, we drove to the address of this winemaker with our eyes closed: mistake not to make.
It is true that the establishment is beautiful and modern, even if the entrance is not signposted. The view from this site is also very beautiful. As everywhere in the region, the tasting is paid for by the glass, 30 to 60 Kc for 5 cl, which is rather expensive. But in addition, the welcome is quite unsympathetic and we do not speak English. But as we had not planned to visit a single cellar, we chose to take a few bottles. Great evil took us, since that same evening in the center of Mikulov, we found a formidable wine merchant in Vinoteka Mikulov, at the address Namesti 199/11, open from 9am to 10pm, who represents about thirty producers. You are entitled to a self-service tasting of 25 wines (20 to 30 Kp per glass) and the range is vast, even Sonberk bottles are in some cases cheaper than at Sonberk! Here is the best Trip Tip we can give you...

We passed by here on route to vienna after downing a few days in Prague . It was recommended in our private transfer .
Unfortunately we didn’t do our research.. we expected a Restaurant , and thought we would have a stop for a meal . There is none .
We had a couple glasses of a Merlot & white wine which were good .
They had an event the night before , so they were out of bread …
we were able to have some olives , sun-dried tomatoes , & cheese .
Luckily there were some crisps and delicious almonds ..
we made do with what we had and in the end it was ok , we were served by a friendly young lady who was very apologetic .. but there is no atmosphere… I feel they could do so much more in this lovely peaceful setting ..quite disappointing.

This is absolutely outstanding place comparing to all othe vine cellars and vine producers that exists in this field. Already the welcome of the impressive gate and the walk or drive up the slight hill to the modern building nestled in the middle of vineyards will announce somethink different. The building is modern yet very warm and carefully designed, you just feel good and you cannnot say why. We had the private guided tour with explanantion how the wine is produced. We realy admired they love to this craft and care about the field, the vineyard and their product. It is impressive to hear that someone plan for 50 and more years in advance. As professionals we had the chance to taste most of their produce. I personaly felt in love with their traditional white wine Palava. I can only recommend to visit this place, taste their vine and buy some stock. When I open their bottle I will always recall the stunning view of Palava and Nove Mlyny that offers their building.

We visited Sonberk winery on July 3. We stopped there on a ride with Daytrip from Prague to Budapest. We weren’t aware that we needed a reservation for a tour (that is on us but other wineries we’ve visited always make sure to have someone available) but the young woman at the counter made no attempt to make us feel welcome or to even try to communicate with us. I don’t think she even smiled once. It is a beautiful spot and the wine was quite nice. Too bad the hostess was so unhappy to be there.

This is probably the best and easiest wine visit you’ll find in the region. Open daily most of the year, ie you dont have to make an appointment. Beautiful setting (and winery) facing the Pavlov hills (a must visit when in the region). Dagmar speaks fluent English and is very knowledgable about wine in the region (so ask her advice, eg for other wineries to visit).
The Sonberk wines are easily among the best Czech wines i’ve ever had. Their dry riesling, dry tramin, dry palava are my favourites. At approx 14 euros (2016 vintage) they are among the most expensive Czech wines, but have no problems competing with any other wine from outside CZ in this price range. Packed with personality, super interesting expressions of locality and varieties.
A relief that CZ is finally starting to fulfill their potential for great wines, kudos!

We stopped at Sonberk on the way to Vienna from Prague. We had a lovely wine tasting with Dagmar, who was really friendly and gave us a nice intro to Czech wines (which were very good). Beautiful property. I hope we have the opportunity to try Sonberk wines again -- overall a very nice stop.

The top of wineyards in this area: wonderful architecture (ing. arch. Josef Pleskot) perfectly connects the off-ground rooms to offer wine with wine-production hall and underground cellars, perfectly grown hand-pickeled grapes prefigure the quality of wines. They grow Rhine Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chadonnay, Pálava, Traminer, Moravian Moscat and Sauvignon in a sustainable way (only about 150 000/year from 40 hectares). You can feel the heart of the owners and producers in every drop of the wine.

We found this place online and in our guidebooks and were fortunate to be able to book a tour there during our drive through the area. We planned to stay an hour or so but ended up there half the day. It is a beautiful setting with wonderful (unexpectedly wonderful) wine and an excellent tour guide who gave us insights into the winery as well as the local history of the town and community. Dagmar Fialová Ing. even helped us book lunch at an amazing local restaurant we would never have discovered without her. This is a hidden treasure!
