My friends and I did the Express Boat excursion where they take you to a sand bar and make you lunch in the middle of the ocean. We are all avid travelers and this is the first place we have been where this type of service was offered. It was worth every penny and more. This is an experience that we will never forget. David and his crew were wonderful and accommodating. They showed us how beautiful Haiti is.

While staying at the Royal Decameron hotel on a family trip, myself and five of my relatives wanted to do a few excursions. We spoke to a representative at the excursions desk who said we could go out on a boat and the crew will catch lobsters and take us to a sandbar where they will grill it for us. We were told the price was $69 for the boat trip and an extra $20 for the lobster for a total of $89 per person. I thought the pricing was odd as it should’ve been one set price but that’s what we were told so we paid cash. We took the ride that was scheduled on 1:30pm on August 3, 2018. When we arrived at the marina to check in, we were told to sign a waiver. When we proceeded to read through it, we were rushed and told to just sign. While there may be people that don’t read what they sign, we do, especially when it’s a waiver to go out on the water with a boat with which we aren’t familiar. We finally signed our waivers and got on the boat. The ride was a bit uncomfortable because there is no capacity number posted on anywhere so when we asked, no one would give us an answer and just said we will be fine. We were a party of 6 with a couple and then we were told to make room for a large party of 40 people. The boat was not large and many people had to stand for the full duration of the 3 hour trip. Once we arrived at the sandbar, there were local boys on paddleboats who paddled to our boat and basically were looking for change with one young man who tried to steal from my purse by reaching over the side of the boat. We were told there was swim time at the sandbar but I noticed, there was no lobster in sight. My dad finally asked the host of the tour at which point he asked to see our tickets that were provided to us upon checkin. When we displayed our tickets, we were told to hold on while they went into a storage bin and pulled out styrofoam boxes that had an already cooked lobster and one plantain in each container. My dad was furious and we were told that they realized that there were too many people booked and couldn’t accommodate cooking. It didn’t make sense because that was the whole point of taking the boat trip. I found the Haiti Discovery account on Instagram and noticed there were unauthorized pictures of my family posted and there were pictures of opulent spreads of grilled lobster which weren’t the experience we had. When I posted that this wasn’t the experience we had, my post was deleted. I reposted a comment and it was deleted again. After which, someone who alleged to be the owner, David, reached out by DM to ask about the experience. You would think that if he reached out and was the owner that he would seek resolution. Not at all. I sent him a picture of what we received which was not what we paid for. He told me to give him a few days to look into it and alleged that he couldn’t find the record of us paying for the boat trip. I have pictures that are time stamped on the boat. I hardly doubt a group of 6 people would’ve made it on there without paying. Nevertheless, he then insinuated that I was lying about the lobster and that I purchased the lobster from a local beach vendor and tried to pass it off as being part of his tour. Please understand, I am Haitian and understand Haiti is a third world country but it does not give them the right to scam people out of their money. He told me that a possibility could’ve been that one of the guys hustled us and charged us the money, pocketed it and gave us lobster from somewhere else. As he explained it, he made it seem like his employees weren’t his responsibility. He said he would give us a free next tour but we aren’t going back. Ever. Poor customer service and no refund yet. He is very lucky the tour was paid with cash. Otherwise, the credit card company would’ve been contacted.

We were staying at Decameron and used Haiti Discovery to take a snorkeling trip. Organizing things with the hotel was a bit more complicated than it should have been. It's obvious the hotel staff and the staff at Haiti Discovery do not communicate as often or as well as they should. Anyway, we boarded a speed boat for the snorkeling trip. I don't think I've ever been on one before, so I was a bit apprehensive, but that apprehension dissipated almost immediately. Haiti is gorgeous! We were absolutely enthralled by the beauty of the coast as we drove out to sea. We drove out to crystal blue waters to snorkel. We were met by Guito and his kids. I'm not a swimmer and Guito really went out of his way to help me relax and appreciate the marvels of the sea. He was a really great guide. Our captain (unfortunately I cannot remember his name, I kept calling him captain) was also excellent. He provided information about the sights throughout the ride. After snorkeling we swam for a bit then came back up for beer. It was an excellent trip. I would recommend this service. Although booking it was a bit of a hassle, the actual experience made it all worth it.
