Located in the heart of downtown Sioux City, the Sioux City Public Museum...

Located in the heart of downtown Sioux City, the Sioux City Public Museum features large, colorful exhibits, interactive displays, and much more. Visitors will discover the "Spirit of Sioux City" through a lively 12-minute orientation film in the ornate "corn palace theatre." A variety of hands-on experiences are available including the award-winning "Innovation I-Wall" and "The Big Dig," which replicates an active fossil dig site. Highlights of the permanent gallery are rare Native American artifacts from the area; Sioux City's first "horseless buggy," a 1901 Oldsmobile; a 1930 Kari-Keen airplane manufactured in Sioux City; and a 1918 Mack fire truck similar to ones used by the Sioux City Fire Department. The two-story Disaster and Recovery Wall features multi-media presentations of three major Sioux City catastrophes: the 1904 Pelletier Department Store fire, the 1953 Floyd River Flood, and the 1989 crash of United Airlines Flight 232. Temporary exhibits feature topics of local and regional interest.

I was blown away when I first entered the Sioux City Museum! I consider myself a museum buff and this little gem is just wonderful. Very factual and lots of artifacts from Sioux Cities past. It is a very lovely place that I hope the locals come out to visit. Not every town has something this lovely and special.

The confluence of four waterways created the founding of the more than century old Sioux City , Iowa . From Native Plains Indian settlements to cooperative ventures with non-natives , from fur traders to industry ,from riverways to airways , from game to gaming , much of the retained artifacts are displayed and interpreted here . An interesting accessable and... More

This is an awesome hidden gem in Sioux City! It's right downtown and accessible anytime of the year through the skywalk system in bad weather or just a short walk when the weather is nice out. It has a ton of cool information about the origins of Sioux City, tons of interactive exhibits, videos, replicas, pretty much anything you can... More

Right in the middle of downtown Sioux City (easy access from the skywalk system, which comes through the museum), the museum concentrates on the storied history of Sioux City. It's colorful, beautifully laid out, is home to a number of fascinating stories and displays, and has several interactive features - well worth a couple of hours of your time. And... More

This place is packed full of things to see! I have paid admission to places and not had as much fun or seen as much! We were greeted by a wonderful staff! They have a bingo game for you to play where you go around finding pictures until you get a bingo and then you get a prize! I thought... More

Wow! The City of Sioux City finally got something right. This museum is great for all ages. Inter-active displays throughout. Brought back lots of memories of what was once here in my lifetime and also in the beginning of Sioux City. We learned quite a bit about the beginning of our town and look forward of going back to see... More
