Travel 650 feet underground into an active salt mine! Experience a cool and soothing subterranean world formed by salt deposits in the Permian Sea long ago. See the raw mine as it was left more than 50 years ago on the Salt Mine Express train ride and catch a guided tour on a tram to the Dark Ride. You won't want to miss a special gallery filled with authentic movie costumes and memorabilia.

NEW in June is the SAFARI SHUTTLE! Add a one hour guided tour to your underground adventure and go BEYOND STRATACA. See salt formations not available to the general public until now! Limited capacity -- only 12 visitors at a time depart 3-4 times a day.

Some friends and I went here (after visiting the Cosmosphere the day before). Really nice tour. We did the 'normal' tour which included getting down in the mine (with its museum) and the train raid and the dark ride. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The information was interesting. Note we did not do the 'safari' add on, so... More

The exhibits down in the mine were very interesting for anyone who enjoys museums. The train and tram rides were fun and the staff were extremely kind and knowledgeable especially Joel.

We've visited a lot of places on our 10,000 mile road trip. This is by far one of my favorites. We took the extra tour back further into the mine. Quite amazing down there and to learn about mining rock salt. Totally recommend it. Just the first shaft ride down was worth it.

The tour was under staffed and we had to wait for stragglers to catch up and for a later tour group to join before some of the activities. Allow an extra hour or two for waiting time.

What an amazing place down there and I was so lucky to find it by way of an elevator. Could not have made it down there without it! Was so surprised of the amount of open space and after taking all the tour rides to come back to a map showing the little bit of space we covered. There is... More

Whili visiting Wichita for Mothers Day weekend, our son who lives here suggested a side trip visit to Strataca in Hutchinson. Very interesting, educational and entertaining experience 650 feet below ground. Highly recomended.

A must visit! We had a great time and learned so much! They store important films and political things as it is a constant temperature and 625 feet below ground .

A wonder of nature awaits you 650 feet below ground. It is a great tour. When you are down and you don't even feel you are underground, it is a self guided tour with lots of people to answer questions. There are over 150 miles of tunnels that have been mined. There are two different train type excursions to view... More

This was recommended by worker at another museum. It's an excellent tour into an active salt mine. Lots of displays, a train ride and a tram ride. Do the whole tour.

In general, I am not a fan of confined spaces - so when at first I heard that there was an opportunity to head a few hundred feet below the surface (in Kansas, of all places), I wasn't sure if I'd be up - er, down - for it. But come on, this is something that has to be done.... More
