- UsuallyNotGrumpy4,166 contributionsFun, informative, distillery in some beautiful countryside! We had to take a break on a looooong drive from Nashville to Columbus, Ohio. Pulled off the highways when we saw the signs and took a couple mile drive back through some beautiful country. We know *nothing* about bourbon but decided to stop in and kick around. The science behind this “simple” process is fascinating. It’s incredible how huge the Heaven Hill operation is! Those huge white Rick buildings stretch long across the countryside. If we had more time we’d have taken the tour. The people were great fun to talk too!!!! We bought a few bottles and a box of the Chocolate Bourbon Balls (orgasmic!). When we got home we were a little surprised to find one of our bottles cost $4 less at the local Kroger. Oh Well, those Rick buildings don’t grow on trees! Loved the visit. Great people. Booze is expensive (look at the price of some of the shots!).Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 5, 2023
- Suzanne W5 contributionsProbably the best distillery to visit.Of the three distilleries we visited, this was our favorite. Our tasting guide was relaxed, conversational. He hit all the points in the book but he also talked with our group and not just at our group. He clearly knows and likes his product. Everyone left happy.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 15, 2023
- Debra40 contributionsBottle and Bonded tour was awesomeThe Bottle and Bonded tour was awesome. The history behind everything and the education in the barrels was fascinating. Susan, our guide, knows her history and you could tell she has a passion for Bourbon. The staff was friendly and the gift shop had so much to choose from. - Casey S10 contributionsGreat ExperienceSuch a fun and memorable experience! We did the “You do Bourbon” experience and it was awesome. At the end we were able To bottle and purchase our very own distillery exclusive whiskeys. We also got there early enough to purchase an 8yr Old Fitz. It was a GREAT day and we highly recommend. Before our experience we grabbed a couple of delicious cocktails and pours at the bar as well.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten February 21, 2024
- Mary SCleveland, Ohio160 contributionsHeaven Hill Tour and BarHeaven Hill was very enjoyable. There was a lot of information regarding the history and past of the Heaven Hill Distillers. We also did the Mashbill tour and had a great experience with the tour. Our guide Rebecca was amazing and made the tour very enjoyable. The Five Brothers Bar upstairs was a great area to relax and unwind after the tour. The bartenders were very friendly and helped make it a great afternoon!Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 13, 2024
- KylieSDowners Grove, Illinois136 contributionsYou Do Bourbon - excellent tourYou Do Bourbon was the best way to end our Bourbon Trail Trip. Herb was fantastic. Knowledgable, funny, personable. The selections we sampled were so good. I bottled the Elijah Craig, my husband chose Larceny. The museum is worth a walk through too. Very well done.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 25, 2024
- Angie MMichigan197 contributionsInformativeThe tour was interesting. We learned the proper way to taste bourbon. We were also able to fill and label our own bottle to take with us. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it would have been nice to tour a bit of the distillery in addition to the tasting.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 11, 2024
- JB1987Columbus, Ohio38 contributionsHeaven HillI enjoyed most of this experience, except for having to wait in line to enter the visitor's center. Everyone else was in line for a special bourbon release. I was there for a tasting. The special release should have a separate line. Aside from that, it was a great experience. The tasting was wonderful. You can easily spend over $200 in the visitor's center. I know I did.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten August 7, 2024

The Heaven Hill Experience is not a tour of the distillery, but a ticket to walk through the museum-like displays and taste through the Heaven Hill whiskeys. While there were some interesting displays and our tasting guide told us fun tidbits, it was less than memorable and not worth the drive from Louisville. Next time I’ll save myself the time and find a whiskey bar serving a Heaven Hill flight.

We went to a "Connoisseur Tasting" on 4/26 at 12:15pm. Our tasting guide did a terrific job. There was water in droppers to add if you wanted to see how a little water changed the taste. My anger came when we tried TO BUY what we had tasted and "it was sold out in the am. WHAT? They don't keep enough bottles to sell for people who paid for the tasting? I blew up. Magically, one of the 2 bourbons was available to buy. What BS. Unless you LOVE their products, skip this!

Larry was our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable. There is A LOT of construction going on with a lot to look forward to...even with the construction, it was still a nice tour. Enjoyed the extra information he gave about the rick houses. The tasting was generous and felt like we got to know the different bourbons better.

This tasting event is advertised to be 45 minutes in length. Our guide arrived and we were shown a short movie at 4:20p. Then we proceeded to the tasting room which was nicely set up for our event. The guide hurried through the tastings and upon conclusion at 4:45p, began gathering up the glasses while we were still sitting at the table trying to finish our tastings that we were rushed through initially. At 4:50p we we were told we had to move to the gift shop. If the company cannot provide a comfortable 45 minute experience for $25, it is suggested they not have a 4:15p tasting experience. We found it very rude to be ushered out in the fashion we were in addition to being rushed through our tastings. The “experience” was quite average - at best
And only because Heaven Hill Has a good product.

We recently held a family reunion in KY and our group was too large to book a tour or tasting experience but we wanted to see this place so we went anyways thinking we would still be able to order a flight and do our own little tasting between ourselves. Nope! We were able to do the museum which was cool and with that, you each get 1 shot of their specific type. There needs to be other sampling options for larger independent groups. Our clan bought a lot a Lux Row b/c we could try stuff but not so much here. It's a loss for the company.

Me and my husband love visiting Bardstown and going to Heaven Hill and doing one of their amazing tours. We went this past weekend and ended up doing the Whiskey Connoisseur Experience twice. From the time we walked in and checked in for our tour until we left the distillery everyone made us fill warm and welcoming.
Vickie was a delight! She was very informative and personable and made us feel right at home. She did a great job of walking us through the tasting experience and explaining the process of the Heaven Hill Brands.

My husband and I stopped here on a whim while visiting Bardstown and we are so glad that we did! We ended up doing the connoisseur tasting which is a tasting of four of their higher end Bourbons. We had a small group and sat in a very nice renovated room in the visitor center. Our tasting guide was absolutely wonderful. She answered all of our questions and took lots of time to spend talking about the history behind each of the Bourbons. Well worth the $20 to spend on this tasting as opposed to $10 for the tasting. Would definitely recommend!

Heaven Hill is largest family owned distillery in the country. They have invested greatly in a large welcome center that boasts a small movie theater and multi room museum. All done very Disney’esque with touch screens and interactive multi sensory displays. They even offered a free two choice tasting for free by museum.
We highly recommend stopping by for all the free offerings
The paid tasting was great as well. Our guide was funny and informative. We were able to taste some very rare bourbons which was a treat.

Our bourbon tasting guide was enjoyable and the room was beautiful but afterwards we were released into tight gift shop quarters with many other patrons making purchases. Maybe after renovations are complete and people are able to spread out more the experience will be better. We were told that Heaven Hill has an informative bourbon museum but it was currently in storage.

My husband and I hadn’t planned to stop here, but it was recommended to us by locals. We made it in just in time for the last tour of the day. So glad we did...
We were the only two on our tour so we received personal attention & had more of a dialogue with our guide. Part of the tour is outside and even though it was raining the entire time we were there, our guide didn’t skimp on information and made sure to provide us with large golf umbrellas for the walk. The warehouse was impressive and the tasting after the tour was great.
FYI- 1). LOTS of construction going on there right now. It will be an entirely new visitor experience when it’s done. 2). And we were on the 4pm tour and the employees clock out & leave at that time. - so it was super noisy & hard to hear our guide outside. So go earlier than 4. 😉

Can you actually buy the Old Fitz at the heritage center?
Also, the prices seen in the pics at the distillery are like 20% higher than my local store which seems crazy since they are the mfgr. Are special bottles really available? If not this might be a pass for me.
Written January 21, 2021
We were told it’s available some days but you may need to get in line before they open.

Evidently, they have 2 tours, Mashbill Tour & Tasting (1 hr., 3 tasting $10) or the Whiskey Connoisseur Experience (45 min., 4 premium whiskey tastings, glass $20). I love learning and tasting, but would like to see a bit of the facility. What has been your experience?
Written March 15, 2019
You want the tour and tasting. To taste the 20 y.o. Old Fitzgerald that can only be purchased in the gift store you will need to take the Connoisseur tasting. Enjoy.

How does this one compare to the Evan Williams bourbon tour in Louisville? We only have time for one tour.
Written March 29, 2016
They are both unique totally different experiences. The Heaven Hill tour, is.. simple history of Bourbon.. Warehouse tour.. tasting (In one of the most beautiful tasting rooms).. Where as the Bourbon Experience in Louisville is more of a "modern museum" feel to it.
I find both very cool.. it all depends on what you are looking for.
If you want a full.. heads to tails see everything Bourbon tour in Bardstown.. don't rule out the Barton Distillery!
(I am not a shill for any distillery.. I find them all amazing and unique and all are worth a visit).

How long is the trolley to the tasting room and how long are you there before you have to get back on the trolley back?
Written September 15, 2015
Heaven Hill is the only "Trail Distillery " that offers a "Bourbon Coniseur" tour. This tour is more expensive but focuses on tasting the products not how they are made. You also taste their top shelf products. In this tour you do not leave the welcoming center to do your tasting. The regular tour starts at the welcoming center, travels around the area seeing the still, rick houses etc.and ends back at the tasting room in the welcoming center.

I bought Elijah Craig 12 year, I really like that stuff and always have, but sometimes its not always on the shelf in Minnesota. Also, I bough a couple bottles of Bernheim, unfortunately I ended up not liking them much, but a good wheated bourbon to have around for friends to try. I also bought a bottle of Evan Williams single barrel vintage. This one was an expensive one, and I have not opened it yet. Several of the good bourbons that people say you should go to the distillery for were sold out.
