We were hoping for some interesting jewelry stores and were sorely disappointed. I literally saw a shopkeeper opening up little plastic bags full of earrings etc. I asked where they were from and, without thinking, she said, "Thailand." She said they did have things made locally too. In short, it was not worth the trip from Cuenca, where you can find the kind of jewelry they say is made in Chordeleg.

We continued on to Chordeleg, famous for the beautiful gold filigree and silver jewelry.
On the way we observe the famous Cholas Cuencanas, women who weave Panama hats while they walk or wait for the bus.
Situated on the banks of the Santa Barbara River, the quiet town of Chordeleg is anchored by a central square and church. We visited the central park walking through the serene town's quiet streets and large central plaza. One of my favorite things about this little town though was the Spanish-style chandelier filigree earring lamp posts.
There are dozens of jewelry stores lining the streets surrounding the park, and scattered throughout the side streets as well. I’ve never seen so many jewelry stores in such a small area! The abundance of silver jewelry was almost overwhelming.
Historically, the people of Chordeleg were metalworkers. Today those metalworkers became silversmiths and are the jewelers that produce silver, nickel, and brass jewelry. While some might people fear that jewelry making is a dying craft, at least for now, there are still plenty of small shops with silversmiths working.

We stopped at this little town for lunch, known for it's gold and silver, other than shops there was very little else to see. Some of the shops seemed quite high end, whilst others were rather tacky.
The parque at the centre was cordoned off you could not see anything and obviously in the midst of refurbishment.
Very little to see - disappointed!

Stopped in this town to see the silver in all the shops and ended up buying a silver ring that my wife spotted and was at a good price. Walked around park and visited little shops and then drove back to Cuenca.

It's just a clean little park in the center of town. It is well maintained and pretty but fairly unremarkable.

Chordeleg Park is located in Azuay, this place offers its visitors many places to enjoy a day in family. For festivities of Azuay, my family and I decided to know this beautiful park because this park has wide green fields, where you can enjoy pleasant moments with the family
You can also beautiful landscape, grandiose trees, river and birds. People are very friendly, This Park is very safe. Near this place there is a church” where you can pray, if you are Catholic. In this place you can buy clothes (coat, pants, gloves, bedspreads, etc...) at good prices and with good quality, the most important fact is that products are 100 % Ecuadorian.
In this place you can eat yapingacho, hornado because their food is flavored home.

Chordeleg is a canton near of Cuenca, at a 40 minutes distance. The places as restaurants, hotels, stores are close. The weather is not as cold as Cuenca. Chordeleg is known as a craft center because the people who live there are engaged with jewelry, ceramic, shoe shops, straw toquilla and others. People who visit this place go especially for buying jewelry because they can get jewels of any size, model and weight and the prices are cheap. I have bought in this place and the jewels are of good quality. Generally, Tourists are attracted to the beautiful jewels they make. The typical food is delicious, you can find dishes as cuy with potatoes, corn tortillas, etc. Other attractions in this place are the parks, museums, churches, etc. If you go to the Azuay province, don’t forget to visit Chordeleg.
