Guided tour. The guide was delightful! She was an amazing story teller that was able to captivate two young boys. Beautiful home, rich with history. Mc Dowell house is conveniently located next to Constitution Square. We visited both places in a morning.

The docent we had obviously really cared about the house and the story of the doctor who lived there. He is famous for performing the first surgery on a woman with an ovarian tumor at that house. The tour takes about an hour though it was only us and the docent, so we talked a lot and it took closer... More

This was a nice place. Our guide seemed to be new at the job though. She never even told us about the surgery that we read about online and in the book. She was very nice and answered a lot of questions, she just didn't know how to lead a tour we thought but she was helpful in every way... More

I had out of town guests that I wanted to expose to Danville, Ky. We visited McDowell House Museum and really enjoyed learning about the history of the first successful surgery. I am a pharmacist so I also enjoyed visiting the Apothecary attached next to the white house.

The McDowell House is a beautiful historic home with a great story of Dr. Ephraim McDowell. This is a guided tour so you can ask questions. Easy to walk through. Tour includes the house, gardens and doctor's office. I would highly recommend this tour!

McDowell House offers a docent led tour of the apothecary typical of early 19th century in the home of Dr. Ephraim McDowell. The first successful ovarian tumor was removed from Jane Todd Crawford on Christmas Day in 1809 while the congregation at Trinity Episcopal church prayed for patient and physician. If you are in the medical field you will appreciate... More

We loved Danville's historic McDowell House! We were able to go into every room and see close up the life of a turn-of-the-century pioneer surgeon. Dr. McDowell made world history here. Their apothecary shop is a gem. In the heart of Danville's downtown, this is one of the best historic house tours I have been to. Kudos to those who... More

The McDowell House is where Ephraim McDowell performed the first successful ovarian surgery on Christmas Day in 1809. Very knowledgable and friendly docent led tour of a well maintained museum in downtown Danville. This is across the street from Constitution Park where the Kentucky state constitution was signed. You are within walking distance of shops and eateries plus only a... More
