Absolutely magical and fascinating. If you’re looking for something a little different in between wines and cheeses, this is it.

This is an experience not to be missed! A chance to step back in time. Our tour was in English and our guide was knowledgeable and great communicator! Bring something warm as it’s 13 degrees in the caves

This was an excellent complement to our visits to Font de Gaume and Pech Merle, as the guide was thorough (in French, with occasional English) in showing the similarities and originality of Cougnac’s art. In the first cave, the formations were tastefully lit and striking. As mentioned by others, admission is less expensive and much easier than for the more famous spots — we booked online the day prior, but others just showed up. The relatively small group made it easier to see and hear than in Pech Merle. The length of the tour was just right.

If you are staying towards the eastern part of Dordogne or in the Lot, this is a must.

I wasnt expecting there to be two different caves and was surprised by the size of both of them. The tour is guided, in French. If you understand, depending on the guide you get will either give you very little or alot of information. Ive been twice with two different guides, the second one was amazing and gave so many more details about the place than the first one and took her time, the first one mumbled and tended to rush us as a group (thus only four stars) Photographs are permitted in the first cave but no in the second one where the drawings are as any type of light can damage them permenantley. All in all a very nice day out, especially in the summer to escape the heat but best to book in advance in the busy summer months.

The most vulgur experience/tour that I have ever been on.

Full disclosure, the situation began because my 6 yr old daughter touched a small brittle piece of stalectite, which broke off, by accident. I understand that this is not a good thing and we repirmanded her for this. However, the lady tour guide went on a full verbal attack to us and our small daughter in French - I said we couldnt speak French - and she then continued on in English. We agreed that our daughter shouldnt have done this, she politely and shyly apologised, but she went on an unbelievable rant at us to the point my daughter burst into tears.

She added to this with the highly insulting and xenophobic "go to your own caves".

This was in full view of a busy tour, it was highly embarrassing and she then threatened to report us to her 'boss' to see if we could continue on the tour. At this point, we had had enough of her vulgarity and we left of our own volition. I dread to think the atmosphere for the rest of the attendees. The gentleman in the kiosk was sympathic and returned our money but by this point frankly we were in shock and disgust from the whole experience and just wanted to leave as soon as we could.

An experience that I will never forget but for all the wrong reasons.

Your tour will take you into two caves. In the first , you will find spectacular formations created over millennia - a rare and beautiful sight of tites, mites, flowstone, and incredible soda straws. In the second, you will find the cave drawings - words can't describe! Imagine standing within inches of and being in the space where early humans created these images 12,000 to 30,000 years ago. We felt most privileged!!

We were a group of 8 people, all from different countries, on a painting holiday. Everyone loved the experience and highly recommend a visit!

This is the second time I have visited. The first with 1,3,5 and 8 year olds and it was great as not too long bit fascinating.
Visited again now they are 8,11,13 and 15 and they were stunned both at the formations in the first cave and then the sense of history with the cave paintings. We visited on a Saturday in August but still had a very small group of our 6 and another 5 french family. The guide spoke fantastic English and was very knowledgeable on the prehistorical information, answering all our questions.
Definately a great place to visit and mot expensive either.
Do go if you get the chance

There are 2 caves, the first one is quite nice with a lot of stalactites and stalacmites . You can take pictures here.

In the second cave taking pictures is not allowed. But this cave is even better than the first. There is a very nice walk in a dense area of stalacmites and stalactites. Nothing like I have ever witnessed before.

And of course the drawings at the end of the tour in the 2nd cave. They are very special! So weird to see something that has been made by someone 30.000 years ago.

Our guide spoke in French and made summaries in English for us which was excellent. She really informed us properly on the highlights.

This is a must see cave when you are in the area!

So glad we came here.

There are two separate caves, one feauring amazing stalagtites, and the other, a short walk away, featured the prehisoric cave paintings.

We arrived at opening time (10am), and booked into the first tour. The tour was given in French only, but the guide, (who was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable) took care to ensure that our children could get a good view, and gave us information in English about what we were looking at. She also lent us a French/English guide book for the tour.

I enjoyed it all the more for not being one of the main touriste caves. It had a relaxed pace, and was reasonable priced.

(Satnav: postcode from website takes you to nearby village. Google Maps takes you straight there. We parked on the left side of the road which kept car in the shade).
