I recently attended a day long meeting at the Center. Their meeting space is just the right size and the available daylight helped brighten a wintry day. The conference chairs are more comfortable than most and the spacious facility made for room to have separate meal space as well as a lecture hall. Breaks were spent roaming the halls of... More

We thought we would be spending an hour or 2 here but ended up spending around 3 hours and then the 2 hrs on the Old State Capital tour down the street ! Definitely a "day trip" and one you will enjoy if you like history.

This facility is EXCELLENT! We visited here to do ancestry research and to learn more about Kentucky history. The library staff was VERY helpful and the archives are amazing. There are files, books and public use computers to research. We were successful in our hunt. This is worth a whole day visit. It's something the State of Kentucky should be... More

We stumbled on this museum around 630pm on a Thursday and found out that on Thursday's it stayed open until 8pm. So we spent the next 90 minutes with the place almost all to ourselves. Having never been to Kentucky both my wife and i thought it was fantastic.

Inside the Historical Center is a mecca for genealogists: the Schmidt Genealogy Library. Well organized with a large collection of books, manuscripts, family histories. They also have internet availability, microfilm, & several librarians available. This library rivals the Sutro in SF for completeness.

A great museum to tour and afterward you can go and do some family genealogy if you had Kentuckians in your tree!

We just missed a guided tour of the old Capitol, and were told by the guide at the head of the group going in to come down here and get tickets for the next one 90 minutes later. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we found this museum so fascinating that we missed the next tour and almost missed the one after that!... More

My kids absolutely love the history center. They offer "camp artyfact" on school breaks where the kids get to see and learn and apply that to their art. We love accompanying them to the museum and enjoy all of the exhibits. Most recently, we made our annual candlelight tour trip there, where they always have fun activities for the kids.... More

I think this is a very good museum. Lots of interesting exhibits to keep you entertained and curious for a few hours. My son especially likes the coal mine exhibit. I think the Ky celebrity exhibit at the end could be updated. The building is beautiful with a great store. Upstairs is a huge genealogy library. A great collection!
