About
Buffalo Trace Distillery is one of America’s oldest continually-operating distilleries with over 200 years of history. It has been known by several names over the years, but one thing has remained the same—their fine bourbon whiskey. Uncover the distillery's history, learn about the science of making bourbon, and get a behind-the-scenes look into the production on a complimentary distillery tour and tasting—but make your reservations early as slots fill up fast. It ends with a tasting of some of their award-winning spirits, including their signature Buffalo Trace Bourbon, and Eagle Rare Bourbon. You can explore Buffalo Trace Distillery and other historic spots on a bourbon tour of Kentucky. – Tripadvisor

    Blanton Day
Blanton day! When we arrived the line was long….but it was a pleasant wait talking with other Blanton lovers! We waited around 45 minutes, got our wrist band and then to the gift shop. The employees were very helpful and the wait to pay was pretty long but it was also nice talking to the others in the line! Finally have our first 2 bottles 😊

Plan ahead so you don’t miss out
The website will tell you the release date for tour dates but don’t be upset if the event you want shows full. Email them and ask about cancellations and most likely you’ll get a spot. We did the hardhat tour with Daryl and let me tell you, he is enthusiastic about his job and Buffalo Trace Bourbon! We were so grateful to have a chance at a tour of this beautiful facility!

    Blanton’s is the best!
Casual and great free Bourbon tasting and tour. Story of how Pappy and Blanton’s bourbon got started was awesome! Love Freddie and the gang! Get there before 10:00 to get your rare bourbon selection of the day!

    Great distillery
You have to sign up early to get tickets (like 1+ month) but it is SO worth it! Lots of history and great information. It is very old school in how they do things, with a lot of today's technology built in. Great tour, great people, worth the time to stop.

    Pretty grounds, enjoyable tour guide
The grounds of this distillery include a beautiful garden area with waterfall. They did not have a "standard" tour available for us, but our group of five was able to squeeze in on a tour which I think had been arranged for a corporate client (the rest of the tour group was all from this company which will remain nameless). Our tour guide was entertaining, though we didn't really see much of the distillery--just some warehouse spaces and a packing location for Blantons. They have an enormous gift shop, and lots of tasting rooms. Our favorite taste was the Bourbon Cream, a smooth take on Irish Cream.

    Fantastic
I am not a bourbon drinker, but WOW! I went with my husband and friends to visit the distillery. The tours are free- that’s right, free. Make sure to sign up early to ensure that you are able to get a tour. Our tour guide was Mark. He was fantastic; to say he was extremely knowledgeable would be a gross understatement. Mark was incredibly knowledgeable, but he was very easygoing and put you at ease. The facility was beautiful and very well maintained. If you are a bourbon fan make sure to check the BT website for the daily prediction for the gift shop. Of the tours we took this one was by far the best and you cannot beat the price. If you are in the area make sure to stop by and make sure to get Mark- you won’t be sorry.

    BTD IN July 🥃
This is one of the best distillerys on the bourbon trail, tours are free so we did the trace & Taylor tours both were very informative and fun. People line up at 730ish or so to insure they get their favorite bottles, but we still got what we wanted up until lunchtime each day. The grounds are beautiful and huge, almost like adult "disney" you also get free tasting at end of each tour you go on. It's usually Wheatley vodka, buffalo trace, there allocated drop of the day, bourbon creme & freddies root beer. Overall had a fun time, but expect lines, but they work efficiently to get the lines moving.

    Great Bourbon Experience
We had a great time at Buffalo Trace. We did the basic Trace Tour and loved it. Our tour guide, Allen, did a wonderful job explaining the history of bourbon in Kentucky and the history of Buffalo Trace. We got to get up close and personal to the barrel emptying process and that was fun to see. The tasting was great, got to sample some Eagle Rare, which is rare ;). They have a huge gift shop, so it's easy to drop some cash if you are a fan of their products. We toured 3 distilleries while we were in the area and Buffalo Trace was the only one that was free. But it was just as good as the others, which just as much product to sample. Highly recommend.

    Not worth the money
We did the Old Taylor tour that is paired with the Kentucky River Boat tours. I learned more on our boat tour, than I did on our actual tour. I’m not sure if it’s because there is just so much history to get into. But we’ve been to other tours that they’ve been able to condense the knowledge down into the one hour time frame. Also I felt like we didn’t really see anything. It was a very disappointing tour and felt like we wasted a lot of our time. You could easily just go to the gift shop and move on with your day. The tour isn’t worth the cost IMO. We did enjoy our tasting. But again it was just put out for us to drink, we weren’t really guided on it. Other tours for other distilleries they’ve been great, about it and knowledgeable.

    Top rated free tour
This is a must if you visit Central Ky. America’s oldest operating distillery offers free tours you won’t want to miss. If you don’t book ahead there are still good chances of getting the tour. They have cancellations. Get there at 9;00 AM if you want to take advantage of it.

We had a great visit to Buffalo Trace Distillery, the tour and tasting was perfect! This place is huge compared to most of the other distilleries and it was awesome to see the difference in the production.

First of all FREE! Great experience! Fascinating - many buildings old and rustic so great for photos. We took the tour at 3:30 pm and our guide said that it was at end of some shifts so we might not see some aspects of production. But still, going through the buildings and storehouses-a great opportunity.

We took 2 other distillery tours on our KY trip. All different from each other. Buffalo Trace—architecturally-was most interesting. Our tour guide was low energy. Especially in comparison to the other distillery tours. He, especially at the beginning, was less than enthusiastic. I heard other guides and they were definitely more into it.
In our group we’re two kids - late elementary-early middle school. They were really engaged through the whole trip. At tasting, Buffalo Trace had root beer for them ;which is made in house) which I thought was a really nice touch.

Oh, during tasting, we really liked one particular bourbon but they didn’t have it in the shop. We understand the production of Bourbons varies, but it would be great if they could hold back at the store a supply to sell or whatever we taste. The bourbon was -W..L. Weller. Oh, they also had a great cream bourbon that we mixed with root beer and that was delicious! The root beer is also very good on its own—I’m a bourbon novice but I know root beer and this one is very good!

A bit out of the way in Frankfort, but worth the drive. Tour and tasting are free, but you'll need to book well in advance. We did the Old Taylor Tour, focused more on the history of the distillery. Very informative, ends with a tasting of 6 of their products which included 4 bourbons (Weller and Blantons were 2 of them) plus Bourbon Cream and root beer (for a rootbeer bourbon cream float) along with a chocolate bourbon truffle. Afterwards, buy their products downstairs in the extensive gift shop.

We hit the Bourbon Trail for our 4th time in the last couple of years. This time we were celebrating my son-in-laws 30th birthday! We started our tour with a stop at Buffalo Trace (our second time in the last 7-months). Tucker was our very informative and energetic tour guide. Our sampling included Weller as the allocated bottle of the day. The entire grounds are awesome to walk around. After spending the several hundreds of dollars in the gift shop we headed out to our next stop on the trail (see my Woodford Reserve review).

Beautiful grounds, informative tour, pet friendly! The entire experience was amazing. The friendly welcome, knowledgeable staff and top notch customer service. Clean and well stocked. Check their website to learn the featured bourbon. We luckily were there on Eagle Rare day. Have fun!

When I heard that our tour was going to take about 45 minutes, I wasn't sure that I'd like it. However, I found the entire tour very interesting and I'm so glad that I didn't miss such a unique experience. Out tour guide was outstanding. The tasting was fun and everyone on our tour seemed to enjoy the total experience. Thank you Buffalo Trace for providing an opportunity to watch your distillery in action without charging a fee!

Jimmy C. led the extensive tour. He was knowledgable and funny. Seeing how much of the vast operation is done manually was very interesting. The tasting was good with several options including a cream liquor and root beer.

Great distillery and easy to get to. Glad we were there on a non-big "release day". Understand when talking to the workers that the day before was very busy due to the release of Blanton's.

You will queue up to register before going on your tour or visiting the gift-ship or tasting. Staff here are very friendly, efficient, and answer all sorts of questions.

Great gift shop and a very nice tasting area upstairs which can be visited with a tour or not.

We (2 couples) took another distillery tour today. This time it’s Buffalo Trace. It was absolutely the BEST tour, including behind the scenes, just for the four of us! We were able to book a tour that started shortly after our arrival without a reservation! And we bought lots of bourbon; we’ll have to postpone getting more wine, because our wine rack will be filled with bourbon! We all agreed this was our favorite distillery tour, we definitely recommend it.

They also have an excellent gift shop. The prices for their bourbon are much less than what we pay back home, so stick up!

Collin who works in the woodcraft shop went above and beyond and made my son’s day by chatting with them and answering all of their questions. He even made them each a part of the barrel with their names engraved on it. My boys 10 and 6 said that the line to see Collin should be longer than the line for wristbands.
