Our guides were Jimmy and Chris, Jimmy led the way and Chris talked at the rear. The mine was stocked with fish (the coolest part for me).I love kayaking and this was by far the easiest hour of kayaking I've ever had (you don't move much distance as the mine is only 5 acres and the 1 hr tour is probably not more than a mile, if that) The group was 12 people I think, but it should have been smaller, we had to stay together so no one got lost but with that many boats, you paddle twice and you bump a fellow kayaker. I debated a bit on whether or not to mention this but Chris never stopped talking. He was friendly, and seemed experieced, however only about a 1/4 of the chat was on the mine, most of his "interp" was about Graffiti on the mine walls and junk that was left in the mine, with a side note on his personal political opinions, which I should add left the only truly uncomfortable silence of the entire trip. My friends and I managed to have fun anyways, but I would not recommend this for anyone who actually kayaks or expects to see a real cave.

My son and I never went on a kayak before. My son, who has anxiety problems, did very well. The guide, Jackie, was so patient and understanding. She walked him through ever step and pinky swore that nothing would happen to him, she was right. He watched all of the fish and was even able to name one of them, Jeff. Jackie was an excellent tour guide and made us laugh while showing us parts of the cave. She made it the best experience we could have. Ashland was also great. Although, she didn’t interact with the tour part so much, she was a great asset to have.

Kayaking in a cave, how cool! I was a bit hesitant at first, due to not knowing what I got myself into. Once in the cave and on the kayak all the fear went away. It is so cool. You are provided a life jacket, helmet and headlamp. Once floating and going along look down you may see some really big fish. Just keep in mind that you are in a cave so the water is cold. I would wear some gloves to keep your hands from freezing. Overall, loved The Gorge Underground! I will be back and highly recommend you go!

The best part? That the 2 teenagers enjoyed it! Chris provided the history and humor while Zach guided us. Read their suggestions on their website and follow them with regards to the potential temperature difference and wet seats. It was about 50 degrees on the tour and it was 85 outside. We brought sweatshirts and a change of clothes anticipating the kayak seats could be wet. Glad we listened. Fun tour for the whole family!

This was a very unique experience that you probably won't be able to find in many other places. You basically Kayak through an old mine that has been flooded and stocked with fish. We were unable to do the lighted Kayak tour however, the normal tour without the lights was still a lot of fun! The guides had lights on their Kayaks so you could still see into the water from time to time. The guides told jokes and made the trip a lot of fun for all ages! It is definitely a unique experience, however you are just Kayaking through an old mine that really doesn't have much to look at other than water and rock walls that were blasted apart years ago. It is cool in the mine so definitely consider taking a light jacket or sweatshirt. It did offer a great relief from the heat and sun though!
